. WIAW … hungry blogger on the loose .

August 24, 2011

100 posts, a giveaway, WIAW, and one hungry blogger

Yessss, there are plenty of reasons to celebrate today, so let’s get the party started!

. – . – . – .

A little while ago, Tori came up with the clever idea of taking pictures of the devastation left behind after a hungry blogger demolishes their meal. Just a fair warning in advance – it ain’t pretty. Some of what you see may shock you. The following scenes are not for the weak of heart…

It was a day like any other. The only difference was that there was a hungry blogger on the loose, preying on innocent meals. The first victim of the day was  breakfast

Eggy bananafied steel cut oats topped with pudding and almond butter.

Poor guy – didn’t stand a chance. And his was only the first name on today’s lengthy list of casualties. Soon after, an attack was reported on a pre-workout snack, in broad daylight!

Cookie dough ball – Chocolate muffin.

All that was found at the scene of the crime were some discarded clothes. What kind of monster are we dealing with here? Horrifying. The next attack occurred around lunch time…

Banana tofu protein pudding

Salad beast – Greek yogurt mess with multiple cereals and trail mix.

Absolutely shocking. Grotesque. These pictures shook me to my very core, but at the same time, I couldn’t turn my eyes away. I wouldn’t have long to lament the loss, however, because it wasn’t long before the attacker struck again. This time on a very handsome afternoon snack

Vanilla ice cream (in a bowl for a change) with a crushed cone and chocolate sprinkles.

Up until this point, the killer made quick work of her victims, but you can tell that she took her time with this one by the “lick marks” left on the bowl. Authorities are starting to believe that the attacker is enjoying herself. And she wasn’t done. Oh no. Around dinner time, she struck again…

Pumpkin hummus tortilla pizza

As of this moment, the killer is still on the loose and considered highly likely to strike again before the day is done. If you are a tasty meal or delicious snack, we encourage you to stay inside your home with your windows and doors locked until further notice.

. – . – . – .

Are you a bowl/plate licker or scrapper? Yes! Both! I always do my best to get every. last. speck of delicious goodness into my belly.

Do you always finish everything on your plate? I do. I think it’s something I picked up when I was recovering from my ED, and now it’s a habit that I find hard to break. I usually have no problem finishing my meals, but there are times where I get full either 1/2 or 3/4 of the way through, but finish anyways.

haha you’re too cute. I loved this. I am a definitely plate swiper with my fingers. Oh well!

  2. August 24, 2011 5:21 pm

Haha what creative writing, I loved this! I do eat everything on my plate, often times I even lick it clean 🙂

    • August 25, 2011 6:00 am

I was lying in bed last night when all of a sudden I remembered I forgot to say Happy 100 posts on my comment! I was tempted to get out of bed and reboot the computer but I figured that I would wait until the morning. Why is it that I always remember things in that strange state between awake and asleep?!

      Anyways congrats on 100 posts !! 🙂

  3. August 24, 2011 5:21 pm

I definitely scrape absolutely everything on my bowl/plate/container/tub or else I feel like im wasting some cents (is that weird?)

As for everything on my plate, again, if I don’t finish everything on my plate I feel like I’m wasting, so I portion my plate sizes/what I’m cooking to appropriate portions where I know I will finish everything in front of me. It’s a bad habit, I’m getting better and better at making leftovers, but I just hate having leftovers even though it makes life so much easier! I’m definitely a lot better… unless of course you count my pineapple/cantaloupe addiction where I just cannot keep either of them cut open for more than one day :|!

Haha I know what you mean about leftovers. I hate having them lying around because it makes me feel like I have to eat them, even if I want something else. Handy if you’re pressed for time, but otherwise kind of annoying.

  4. August 24, 2011 5:22 pm

    I am a PROUD plate/bowl licker!!!

I am craving your ice cream bowl, I think its the chocolate sprinkles on top that make me drool even more!

How are you girl?!! How many days now until the MOVE?!!

Love the devastation left behind food pics, lol!

    ❤ xoxo

  5. August 24, 2011 5:23 pm

If I make something at home, it’s very rare that I don’t finish it. At restaurants, I don’t always finish, but most of the time I scrape my plates and bowls clean enough to be used again without washing. Haha! Maybe not that clean, but close! If I don’t finish a meal, there definitely isn’t much leftover. People are always surprised at how much I can eat.

I’m going to make that pudding you posted 🙂 Looks delicious!

Haaaaaaa. Im laid in bed awake. Read this as you just uploaded and i laughed a lot. Abduction smiled. Your blog really fills me with freedom mentally giving hope.

bahaha I’m a certified bowl/plate licker as well. I don’t eat out of bowls that I can’t lick clean! I ALWAYS finish my meals. I did it as a child and I do it now…. I don’t plan on breaking the habit ever. 😉

I’m definitely a plate finisher! Whats the point of putting it on the plate in the first place if it’s not going to be eaten anyway? ;p All your food for the day looks soooo good and loving the black sheep mug – how cute! The sheep were eye witnesses to the attack though – dundundunn!!!

  10. August 24, 2011 5:35 pm

Yum! what a fantastic WIAW! I am now a bowl/plate cleaner/licker! haha and proud of it 🙂

  11. August 24, 2011 5:38 pm

I knew I had to come over here to see that ice cream that you mentioned on my blog.. You lucky lucky girl. I unfortunately cant even remember the last time I had ice cream because I’m trying to budget my groceries up here at school.. WAHHHH

I don’t always finish everything on my plate– but most of the time I do 😉 And YES I absolutely lick the bowl/plate clean! Sometimes even in public….

  12. August 24, 2011 5:40 pm

Haha this was awesome! Loved it :). I usually eat all of my food…and try to get every last bit of it! And like you, even if I’m full, I still typically finish it. Unless of course I get so full that it hurts…then I don’t finish.

Your’lil tale is both thrilling & delicious:)
If I’m out to eat or with company I keep it classy and just use my finger to get the last morsels of goodness on my plate. When I’m on my own( which is pretty much always) the tongue comes out to get the job done.
I always clean my plate too, regardless of my fullness.
CONGRATS on 100 WONDERFUL & BEAUTIFUL posts- I hope there are many more to come!

  14. August 24, 2011 5:50 pm

Amanda this was WAAAY too cute. Yes what a monster indeed!

And yeah, I’m a plate finisher, but my parents didn’t instill a “Clean plate club” in me…I just like to finish what I eat. I used to flip out in recovery when they told me to eat as much as I could, because, well, it made it hard because my body never knows what it wants.

And yeah, I swipe, lick…whatever it takes. Especially the yogurt containers 😀

  15. August 24, 2011 5:51 pm

Nummy nummy!! You got some might fine eats there you hungry blogger you 😀 I want that ice cream bowl so bad!!!
I’m thoroughly guilty of licking my bowls clean, a spoon can never demolish the remnants of a yogurt mess quite like a finger haha

  16. August 24, 2011 5:52 pm

    Ahh I love it!

And um, yeah I lick my plates (with my tongue AND my fingers!) and I tend to always finish my food, even if, like you said, I start getting full. Sometimes I will put away the serving for later, but I often will finish anyways. It can be a bit frustrating 😕

PS: I love your ice cream bowl. Way to switch it up, LOL!

    • August 24, 2011 7:10 pm

Well so many people said they preferred ice cream in a bowl when I asked, so I needed to see what all of the fuss was about! I’m still undecided…

  17. August 24, 2011 6:00 pm

I seriously love this idea. Recently I was thinking of doing an “aftermath” post like this – just cleaned plates. You beat me to it and I love it!

I’m not a plate licker – but I do tend to clear my dish pretty well! If I get full I’m more likely to leave random bits behind, but for the most part I eat everything :]

  18. August 24, 2011 6:07 pm

I am definitely a bowl and plate scraper! I don’t mind licking my plate clean either. I’ve done it in public before…no shame.

I almost always clean my plate. Before my Ed, I stopped eating the second I was full, but after spending a few years in a state of perpetual hunger, I now clean my plate every time.

  19. August 24, 2011 6:09 pm

HAHA! Love this, girlie. My poor plates don’t stand a chance, either.

I’m definitely a plate-finisher. Well, you’ve already seen my post! I tend to always finish things at home, but when I’m out sometimes I’ll leave some since the portions are so much bigger than what I’m used to! Eeep. But then I’ll just finish it later that day. HAH!

    HAPPY 100TH POST, LOVE! ❤ ❤ ❤

I tend to swipe with my finger more than lick, but I like to get all the good stuff! If I measure out portions I always make sure to get the goodness out of the measuring apparatus (?????), too. Nomnomnom.

That ice cream looks fabulous! I'm not a big cone-eater, but crumbling one for a topping is brilliant! Nomnomnomnomnmnomnom. Nom.

    You've made me hungry! Hah.

CAT VERY FRESH. PICKED THIS MORNING.

  20. August 24, 2011 6:10 pm

Ahhhh! Run Away! Full lock down in procedure! My meals wouldn’t stand a chance against the villain! I mean, look, she. licks. bowls. Cruelty in its most severe form. 😛

But I have a secret. I am a bowl licker too! Shhhh….. my greek yogurt bowls are almost always wiped clean.

And yes, I always finish my plate too. My Dad used to spank us if we tried to leave the table with food still sitting on our plates. Those were bad times my friend! But he made his point and the habit has stuck with me to this day.

  21. August 24, 2011 6:14 pm

Happy 100th post! Wishing you many, many more delicious posts to come!

  23. August 24, 2011 6:18 pm

99.99999% of the time iI finish everything on my plate. I am pretty good at giving myself portions that will fill me right. Not too much – and not too little. And 99.98% of the time.. I lick that plate clean 🙂

  24. August 24, 2011 6:20 pm

This gave me a much needed giggle. ❤
I am definately a licker, consider me a part of the 'clean plate club'

  25. August 24, 2011 6:23 pm

Yes I am a plate finisher….there are starving food babies in my belly! Heehee.

PS- You leave remarkably little crumbs on your placemats! (Unless you lick them).

    • August 24, 2011 8:14 pm

😆 Now that’s just gross 😛 I try not to make TOO much of a mess, so I eat over my plates. Either that or my food isn’t too crumby?

  26. August 24, 2011 6:26 pm

I am a total plate licker but don’t tell 😉 I always finish my plate haha I’m such a fatty, errr I mean foodie!

  27. August 24, 2011 6:31 pm

If nobody is watching, I’m a licker for sure. 99% of the time I finish whatever is on my plate, unless eating out. I guess it’s because I put a certain amount of food on my plate because I know that’s how much my body needs, so why not indulge and finish it all?

  28. August 24, 2011 6:42 pm

This was so cute! I’m not a plate kicker but I definitely pick up any crumbs I drop on the table or wherever I’m eating, as long as I know it’s pretty clean. Definitely a messy eater over here 😉

  29. August 24, 2011 6:58 pm

Ha! I love the before/after photos…cool idea. You are a brave one fore posting that.

  30. August 24, 2011 7:09 pm

I’m a member of the ”clean plate club” … it’s not really a good thing, because sometimes I eat too much and then my stomach hurts. I hate wasting food, though.

  31. August 24, 2011 7:14 pm

This post was hilarious, Amanda! If it was acceptable to giggle while some people are actually working, I definitely would.

If I like what I am eating, you can hardly see anything left on the plate. When I am at home, my naughty fingers always get inside the plate/bowl/cup (or whatever I am eating from) when my favorite teaspoon throws in the towel unable to scrape anything more from the bottom.

  32. August 24, 2011 7:16 pm

I am such a bowl scraper….I’ve also been known to lick them 🙂

  33. August 24, 2011 8:13 pm

LOVE this. What a cute post. I’m definitely an eat-it-all kinda gal. I’m glad you’re a member of the clean plate club, too 🙂

  34. August 24, 2011 8:45 pm

I am totally a plate licker and scraper! Anything to get every last morsel!! I also just realized why your smoothies are always in that cup – you mentioned that you use the magic bullet in your comment on my last post and that’s the cup that comes with it! Brain blast!!

I almost always finish what is on my plate, unless I’m ridiculously full. This is kind of a bad habit when I’m out at restaurants and I know everything is richer, but one night of eating heavier food isn’t going to kill me!

  35. August 24, 2011 8:53 pm

This seriously made me laugh out loud – love it! Theme posts are the best. I’m totally a plate licker/scraper. I’ve had this notion in my head that I have to finish everything on my plate, and I always have. I’m learning to stop when I’m full, but it’s really hard. Portion control is one of the most difficult things for me, but one of the most important – along with being perfectly satisfied if I leave something on my plate that I don’t want to finish. Hey, food is for enjoying, right? So why eat something I won’t enjoy.

  36. August 24, 2011 9:09 pm

Haha dude, I’m a shameless bowl scraper 😉 I don’t like to leave anything left behind! haha

I totally need to try putting eggs in my oats. I’ve never done it and it’s about time!

  37. August 24, 2011 9:17 pm

You should win an award for most creative ways to write a post 🙂

I’m definitely a licker! My pool of syrup after those pancakes? Yeah, that disappeared. With ice cream, I think the messy goop is sometimes the best part!

I finish all of my meals. It’s actually a bad habit for me because I will be hungry but then I overeat because I feel compelled to eat EVERYTHING.

  38. August 24, 2011 9:45 pm

Ah this made me smile. You’re funny, Amanda.

I don’t finish everything on my plate, stupid ED habit I haven’t been able to break yet. But I’m working on it. =)

  39. August 24, 2011 9:46 pm

Your food always looks so good!

I ALWAYS finish my food especially when I make it. I hate going through the effort of cooking/making something and then being too full to throw it away in the end. No. I just can’t do it.

I used to lick my bowl/plate but now I find it disgusting. I find saliva disgusting. I just can’t do it haha. I’m weird.

Growing up I was never told to finish everything, so I just ate till I was full and stopped… or ate the parts I liked and left the rest 🙂 Now a days I cook usually just for one, and I have pretty small dishes and a big appetite so I usually go back from seconds or thirds! I think I would only lick my plate if it were something AMAZINGLY delicious, but I do scrape my oat, ice cream, and other dessert dishes usually pretty well. This post was super fun!!!

And usually all my meals are so delicious, why would I leave any of the plate!

  43. August 25, 2011 12:24 am

hahaha soo funny!! Your food looks soo pretty, makes me hangry!!! I love the idea of crushing the cone up in the icecream bowl too, you get the best of both worlds. I’ll lick my plate if theres something lickable on it (syrup from my waffles yesterday) and i always feel the need to clean my plate but iim working on stopping when im full, even if theres still food on the plate.

  44. August 25, 2011 12:42 am

Haha I’m definitely a licker, especially with breakfast! I never leave food at home but at restaurants, I do sometimes- surprisingly the portion sizes sometimes manage to defeat even me!

  45. August 25, 2011 12:46 am

I alwas eat everything, i cant stand food going to waste, m plates and bowls are also cleared liek a dog has been at them hehe

    Happy 100th post Amanda<3

Haha, this post made me smile soo much 😀 Funny, aaand the food looks delicious!
I atually once saw a program about intuitive eating, and he said that leaving a small piece behind, helps us become more intuitive and more in controll. So most of the time I leave a tiny bit behind. Haha, havent made me an intuitive eater yet though 😛

  47. August 25, 2011 2:26 am

I really don’t get people that leave stuff on the plate, I’m a total plate licker, finger round bowl kind of girl, I just can’t help it!

  48. August 25, 2011 2:46 am

I almost ALWAYS wipe my plate clean! haha…and I’m definitely a bowl licker when by myself (*ahem breakfast), oh well…at least nothing goes to waste with me!

  49. August 25, 2011 2:59 am

    Haha, this is so cute!

I tend to finish all that crosses my path foodwise unless it’s a huge portion or I don’t like it – both rare!

Was always told it’s somewhat uncouth to lick my plate but I still do it sometimes! Not a scraper though, since I can’t stand the noise of cutlery on crockery.

  50. August 25, 2011 3:15 am

I rarely leave stuff on my plate…such a waste! I’m mostm certainly a plate scraper and plate licker! 🙂

  51. August 25, 2011 3:40 am

….oh you’re still here? I’d have thought you’d be in a jail cell by now! 😛 I guess they thought your blog posts were too entertaining to take you away hahaha.

I always clean my plate when I prepare food for myself or serve myself – I know how much I’m hungry for 99% of the time. 1% of the time I’ll start eating and get full faster than I thought…enter tupperware. At restaurants though, a take-out box or a few straggler items may occur!

And I am totally a bowl licker/cleaner/scraper. My dog gets really sad about this sometimes, he thinks I’m taking his job.

  52. August 25, 2011 6:04 am

My boyfriend is a plate-scraper. He swoops his fingers over his plate like a hungry little Zamboni, scooping up any remnant of sauce or crumb. It really grosses me out!

I usually clean my plate, because I am one of those “measurers” so I am eating exactly as much as I’m supposed to!

  53. August 25, 2011 6:53 am

I don’t clean my plate because I think it makes me look like I’m eating too much 😦

  54. August 25, 2011 7:40 am

I am a product of my Indian father and thus I always have a clean plate! Lectures about the kids in India…will always remain with me. And history is repeating itself because I tell my child the same thing!

  55. August 25, 2011 7:54 am

I almost always have a clean plate after a meal, except when I’m out at restaurants. Then I usually bring food home, since our American portions tend to be too big.

Congrats on your 100th post! You’re on a roll!

And the ice cream bowl topped with cone and sprinkles looks delicious. I usually stick to a cone, or use other toppings, but I think I’ll have to try it.

    • August 25, 2011 9:38 am

I’m more of a cone person myself, but everyone seemed to be so fond of having it in bowls that I had to see what all of the fuss was about. I’m still undecided…

  56. August 25, 2011 8:07 am

I am definitely a member of the clean plate club — something my parents made sure we did when we were kids and it has stuck with me. Every once in a while I don’t finish my meal if I’m full or if it doesn’t taste the best!

Can you give suggestions on wraps you use? Different kinds that might be good?
Also…I might have to move into another shared situation where there is no oven…but there is a hot plate and a toaster oven…how do i make pizza via that ?

    • August 25, 2011 9:42 am

I use brown rice wraps for my pizzas because I like how crispy they get, but any wrap works. And I use a toaster oven for my pizzas sometimes if it’s too hot to turn on the big one. If the toaster oven is big enough to fit a whole tortilla, just stick it in and turn it up to 350, and if it’s not big enough, slice the tortilla in half and stick both pieces in.

Dang girl! Your eats look so flippin’ good! 🙂 I am definitely a member of the clean plate club. I totally agree with picking it up during my time with disordered eating. I knew that I could have that exact amount and that is what I always did! It is a pretty hard habit to kick.

  71. August 25, 2011 6:05 pm

Amanda you are so creative, I loved this post! As usual, your eats look perfect, tasty, amazing… I just want to jump through the screen to get them 🙂
I always finish everything on my plate… yet another lovely habit I picked up during the dark years… ugh

  72. August 25, 2011 7:26 pm

Hahaha I absolutely loved this post — such a creative spin on it!! 😉

Yes, I am usually a “finisher” … it’s a combination of knowing how much I’ll want / need and only making that much, and growing up with a “finish everything on your plate!!” mom. Which works fine when I’m the one doing the cooking, not so fine when I’m eating out.

Happy 100th post! I’m totally a plate licker/swipper and usually finish everything on my plate regardless of how full I am. Weird habbit.

I am definately a bowl/plate licker! Haha! Unless it’s something a little drier or crumby, when licking is not needed 😉 And I almost always finish everything on my plate, but there are times when I just don’t want to eat the rest. But barely ever, I hate wasting! 🙂

I def scrape the bowl, especially when I’m cooking muffins, or something.

OK, and that Banana tofu protein mix of yours looks so good! I did a second take of it – first I thought it was a shake…then I thought…hold the fort! That’s pudding! Yum.

    Hi,
I’m Ellis and I’ve been reading your blog for a long while now. 🙂 Such an inspiration!
I starting my blog also today.. finding my happiness.

To answer your question: I usually finish everything on my plate to the last crumb but sometimes when eating outside I just can’t fit everything into me.

    plate licker? here, here, me!!!
everytime I have my green smoothie, there will be a clean white cup left – before washing the dishes. and wait until I start baking and get my hands in the bowl with leftover dough… uuuuh… there is no hold…

    YAY I’ve missed your blog!
Yep, I’m a licker. It’s a gross habit..but when something is REALLY delicious, why wouldn’t I want every last scrap?
I always finish my plate too, even if I’m full, or I don’t like it that much. I just cannot waste food (no doubt it’s a leftover ED thing). It’s annoying…but I think I’ll ‘grow out of it’ as I develop more!

haha, I lovee this post! I’m definitely in the clean plates club 🙂 I don’t normally lick my bowls or plates, but I do try and get every last bit. Even if I’m stuffed.

I’m really craving some ice cream now! 😉
