. starting the week with a bang .

August 8, 2011

Happy Monday, friends! 😀

I hope you all had a restful weekend and a fantastic start to the new week. My weekend, while not all that restful, was a good one nonetheless. Think sunbathing (in between periods of rain)…

… and shopping…

I spent the majority of Saturday and Sunday shopping for things that I never really thought I’d enjoy shopping for: furniture and paint. I didn’t end up buying anything, because I’m just trying to get some ideas for now, but it was a lot of fun, and I can’t wait to move into my new place and start making it my own. And speaking of the new place….

EEEEeeEEEEEee. I’m way too darned excited. I have a mini squeak/glee-fest every time I think about moving (which is multiple times a day). Seriously. I spontaneously start “EeeEeee-ing” and jumping around like an overjoyed 5 year old on Christmas morning.

Mom and Dad, on the other hand, are a little less enthusiastic about my leaving. They’re happy for me, but it’s going to be a big adjustment for them. I’m really close with my parents and we get along really well, which is part of the reason that I stayed at home for so long. That and I couldn’t handle the extra stress of supporting myself while I was suffering with my eating disorder, and I also didn’t want to move out until I could afford the kind of place that I wanted.

So I stayed at home, feeling like a goofball for being well into my 20’s and still living with my parents, but my patience paid off, because in 38 days….. EEEEeeEeeeeeEEE 😀 😀 😀

So that was my weekend. Shopping. Sun. Good times. As for my week thus far, well, it started out with a bang. Literally…

Sad face.

That’s two broken dishes in less than a week. I’d say I’m getting quite adept at this dish-demolishing business, wouldn’t you? Le sigh. But there’s no use crying over spilt milk; or broken [heaven in a] bowls, in this case. Mmm hmm. I ruined one of my favorite bowls and one of my favorite snacks in one go. How you like them skills? Personally, I don’t like them all that much. Luckily, there are plenty of things I do like that cheer me right up. Likeeeeee….

… chias in protein puddings

It’s so goopy!

… chocolate

… aaaaaaand pizza

Broken bowls? What broken bowls? 😉

EeeeeEEeeeEeee. Sorry. Feel free to smack me 😀

. – . – . – .

Besides food, what’s your favorite thing to shop for?

How old were you when you first moved out? Can anyone relate to my story?

So exciting!!! I’m officially moving out next month, before that I lived away from home while I was in college obviously, but since graduation, I’ve been home in the past month or so. Besides food I loveeeee clothes/accessories shopping and shopping for gifts!

  4. August 8, 2011 5:52 pm

I just love shopping in general. I hate broken bowls, at least you can shop for cute new ones soon!! 🙂 So pumped for you, girly!

  5. August 8, 2011 5:54 pm

yay! I have a mini squeek fest when I get to see what you might be picking out for your apartment!
I love that you took a picture of your broken bowl and took such a gorgeous picture! I mean seriously you have skills 🙂
My favorite thing to shop for would have to be new gadgets like cellphone, computers.. ahha I don’t do it often but when I do I love to know every ounce of information on it. Maybe once I’m ready to move out I’ll be excited to do paint colors and furniture!

    • August 8, 2011 8:54 pm

Hehe yeah I definitely think it’s one of those things that comes with having your own place. I had pretty much no interest in furniture prior to this.

  6. August 8, 2011 5:55 pm

ohmygosh you HAVE to join pinterest.com! its how i got my paint colors chosen and picked out some of my furniture!! =) it takes forev to get an invite (totally free) but if you send my your email addy i can send you an invite you can use immediatley ❤

  7. August 8, 2011 5:55 pm

i moved out after i was done with college. well. i guess before then since i rented a house my junior and senior year and stayed during the summers. i almost wish i could live with my parents again. well…maybe not 😉

i am very close with my parents as well, but something about having your own place is very gratifying. you’ll love decorating! did you buy a place or are you renting?

ps. IKEA is my happy place. i could spend hours in that store and not buy a single thing. even though i want it all!

    • August 8, 2011 9:06 pm

I bought a place 😀 I didn’t want to rent, which is why I had to wait for a while. And I totally agree about IKEA. My room right now looks like it could have come from an IKEA catalogue lol.

  8. August 8, 2011 5:57 pm

plates, and kitchen accessories! as well as furnituuuureeee ahhh!!!

I moved out of school when I went away to university… then in university for diagnosed with fibromyalgia, and it was too hard to handle so I moved back home… it definitely does suck… but it made my relationship with my mom a lot stronger so regardless of the situation not being the most desirable it certainly had it’s up’s!

I AM SO SO EXCITED FOR YOU!! I just caught up and read your last gazillion posts and I seriously am so jazzed for you!! YAAAY!! 😀

And food all the way, but then books! I can spend HOURS in a bookstore, and I do sometimes! 😛

    MISSED YOU!! ❤

  10. August 8, 2011 6:04 pm

Hmmm. Besides food I’m all for clothing! Though if I had a fancy new place I’d be ALL OVER shopping for that. Eeee! I was considering being an interior design major…

I’M SO EXCITED FOR YOU! ❤ I can't wait to see all the fun goodies you pick out to spruce up the new abode.

Two broken dishes. Wah. And two incredibly adorable ones, at that! Poo on that.

I haven't really 'moved out' persay, though I went away to college and did the whole dorm scene. And who knows what'll happen post-education. Art majors aren't known for bringing in the big dollars straight off the graduation stage. LOL! Here's hoping!

That purple looks suspiciously similar to your blog theme's hue… 😉

And speaking of chocolate, I'm off to consume some right. NOW!

I just moved into my first apartment about a month ago, and I think my mom is taking it harder than I am. I’m really close with her too, but just because you don’t live with your parents doesn’t mean you can’t hang with them! My mom likes to stop by to lay out by my pool (and bring me food) and I plan on meeting up with her to go clothes shopping soon.

I’m super excited for you! And super sad about your bowl (and losing the deliciousness it contained) 😦

  12. August 8, 2011 6:06 pm

Besides clothes my most favorite thing to shop for is – necklaces —im kinda obsessed…

xoxo furniture shopping is so much fun too though!

  13. August 8, 2011 6:07 pm

One of my favorite things to shop for is clothes! 🙂 I love those shades of purple! I wish I could paint my room — you get to paint your whole apartment! 🙂

  14. August 8, 2011 6:08 pm

Yuppee for paint and furniture shopping! I can’t wait until I get the chance to do what your doing. I get along well with my parents too, so for now I will stay at home and finish my last year of undergrad…yuppee!

  15. August 8, 2011 6:09 pm

I was 18 when I first moved out. I got an apartment with a friend when I started college, then I moved back to my hometown and got my own apartment. I still have my own apartment, but a different one now. I love having my own place. I’m so excited for you! I’m going to vicariously live through your furniture shopping. It’s so fun when it’s stuff for your own place! I just bought a lamp and couple new plants the other day, and even that made me happy! Although, aside from shopping for food, I have to say that clothes are my favorite thing to shop for. Seeking therapy through new clothing is one of my weaker attributes.

  16. August 8, 2011 6:13 pm

Eeee! I am excited for you haha! I love shopping for plates and teacups, and I still live with my ‘rents..its way cheaper right now, until I finish school 🙂

Ooh, I love corner sofas like that one! I don’t think I’d trust myself with the white though- it would probably stay that colour for like a day. You’d have to be veeery careful with your bowls of heaven near it!
I like shopping for books, dvd’s, magazines, dish ware, bedsheets, toiletries….. I could go on & on.
I moved out at 17- I think this is quite young? I needed to get out of the small town I lived in with my mum & be in a city I like being on my own most of the time!
    Xxx

  18. August 8, 2011 6:14 pm

eeeEEee shopping for a new place is always so exciting! 🙂 You definitely deserve to have as many of those glee fests as you want 😀 I do love furniture shopping, but i think my favorite shopping other than food is shoe shopping! What can i say…I have a thing for cute shoes 😉

eek sorry about the bowl! I hope you made another one of those [heaven] in a bowls 😛 I didn’t break anything (yet!) but I totally made a mess this afternoon too. Kombucha is apparently silent but deadly when it comes to its carbonation. I opened it, put it on the counter, turned my back to it for one second, and next thing i know its bubbled over and dripped into all the cabinets and onto the floor. But of course, good food makes everything better 🙂

  19. August 8, 2011 6:19 pm

sorry about the broken dishes…i hope the “things happen in threes” rule will not apply to you!!
i love shopping for clothes, make-up, flipflops. mostly it ends up being WINDOW-shopping!
i can relate: i am super close with my parents, too. they live in the condo building next to my condo building – it’s really fun to be able to just pop over there!

  20. August 8, 2011 6:29 pm

Oh noes! Sorry to hear about another bowl casualty 😦 Glad the delicious food made up for it though haha
I am the most excited human being on the planet for you!!! AHH all of the shopping, decorating, and moving can be so gosh darn fun. Besides food, I LOVE shopping for quirky antiques and unique bowls and plates. 🙂 And, as you know, I’m moving out in…lesseee…I think it’s 13 days! Jeeze I can’t believe it’s almost here!

  21. August 8, 2011 6:33 pm

I actually moved away at the age of 18 for school, but I might end up moving back in post-grad. Don’t feel bad about it at all! My brother is 25 and he’s still living with mum & pa.

You should be flattered that they want to keep you around for so long 😀

  22. August 8, 2011 6:42 pm

As you would say “Eeee!” I am so excited for you. I know I have said it before, but it is all too true!

I am with you on the chocolate and pizza. Protein pudding? I have yet to try it. You introduce new foods too quickly for me to keep up! It all looks so good and I need, err, want to try all of it!

I have to find all the crazy food at a store first though. That is hard for me where I live. It is easier and to shop for tools (yeah it’s kinda weird for a girl) and beauty products. I think that is what I would call them. That doesn’t include make-up because I barely wear any, but lotions, body washes, shampoos, toothpastes, perfumes, and any other thing like that. I love reading the ingredients and finding the best product/healthiest product.

The only time I “moved out” was when I ran away temporally when I was 8. I don’t think that counts though. 😛

  23. August 8, 2011 6:43 pm

How cute. haha. Feel free to EEEEeeeeEEEEE your lil’ heart out. I moved in at home after college for a semester. Kev still had a semester left, and I got a job near home since we weren’t engaged or anything at the time. It was nice having mom cook and do my laundry. Sorry Mom for taking you and your wonderful mommy services for granted!

No one noticed that your last two pics of the broken bowls look like magnified, bitten M&Ms! Haha

And I’m 23 and JUST moved out for the first time in May, but only because I found a job in a city clear across the country! And like you, I’m moving BACK in with the parents because I came to realize that moving away so far and taking on a new, full-time job while only really beginning recovery was a mistake. I’ve let ED control me TOO much, and enough is enough. So I’m going back home where I will have the support of my parents, the comfort of my home, and a wonderful treatment team I left too soon…I’m disappointed for “failing” myself when I could have made so much more of this experience, but am relieved and motivated to finally TRULy tackle this ED monster so that I never have to “fail” like this again!

  25. August 8, 2011 6:46 pm

You made me laugh! On the inside though… because laughing while everybody else is working wouldn’t be the smartest thing to do 🙂 .

I first moved when I was 18 and since then I have lived in… let me think… 8 different places. I wish I were so excited about my new place but I moved in about a week ago and I already hate it. I hope the main reason for my feelings is the heat and somewhere in September, October or whenever we get back to normal temperatures I will like it more 😦 .

    What about book shopping?

  26. August 8, 2011 7:01 pm

Boo to broken bowls! But food is a great way to make you feel better, nice job Amanda 🙂
That is so exciting that you are moving to a new place, and I am glad you are psyched, it’s going to be wonderful!
I love to shop for home goods stuff too- decorative stuff, pillows, blankets, decorations, love it all

  27. August 8, 2011 7:05 pm

I am EXCITED as ever for YOU! I love the paint colors! SO warm and earthy ! Love love love! The pic of the sky is amazing!

I love shopping for sweats at vic secret and gym clothes at lululemon!!! U know Im a lululemon addict ; )

I was 19 when I moved out, it was scary at first, but best thing I ever did!!! I am happy for you girl!

Have a great night love! p.s. love your travel snackage! lol! U are so funny!

    • August 8, 2011 9:41 pm

Haha I know you love your Vic Secret. And is it creepy that I think of you whenever I walk past/into one? 😆 Okay, that definitely sounds creepy. But it’s only ’cause I love ya ❤

  28. August 8, 2011 7:07 pm

When I saw that your bowl was full…I started thinking “I’m not sure if I’d be more bummed about the bowl, or the food!” haha.

I’m so excited for you, girl!! Definitely worth the wait to get the place of your dreams, too!

  29. August 8, 2011 7:08 pm

Sorry about your broken plates. I love dish ware and hate it when my clumsiness leads to its demise. I love shopping for home stuff. Congrats about the new place. Like you, I am also very close to my parents. I’m an only child so maybe that’s why. I’m 21 and currently living at home while finishing college. I dabbled in dorm life for a year and a half and had an apartment for a while. Since I go to school so close to home, though, it makes more sense financially for me to be at home. I think I’m also happier at home too.

    • August 8, 2011 9:44 pm

Same story for me. Only child. Probably wouldn’t enjoy dorm life. Go to school close to home. It makes sense, and it’s not that bad 🙂

  30. August 8, 2011 7:10 pm

Ahhhh oh no! Hahah didn’t you just break a glass last week? How frustrating! … and how creepy (yet awesome) that I know that.

  31. August 8, 2011 7:44 pm

I’ve moved about 1 1/2 away from my parents, which isnt that far really. But at first because I was all on my lonesome I was kind of like.. woahhh..

I get so upset when I break my bowls and cups. I love each and everyone of them like children haha. I love shopping for kicthen ware though, guilty please.

  33. August 8, 2011 7:59 pm

Congrats on going furniture shopping, it must be so exciting! I still live at home with my parents so I can’t even relate! Sorry about your broken bowls and the scrumptious snack they carried 😦 The chia pudding and pizzas do look amazing though 😉

  34. August 8, 2011 8:01 pm

Yes!! I can totally relate. I was SO excited when first moving to college. We shopped for places a few months before we could move in, but it felt like Christmas waiting. And I squealed when they called to tell me I had been approved. Unfortunately, the excitement died once I met my roommates..BUT I had just as much excitement moving to the next place after that! 😛

  35. August 8, 2011 8:21 pm

I like dishware shopping annnnd clothes shopping. I’m not the most fashionable girl in the world, but I just love getting new outfits together! I can sorta relate to you: I’m very close with my parents and have a hard time being away from them. I don’t have to move out for quite a while tho!!

  36. August 8, 2011 8:30 pm

mmm chia in pudding! I just bought my first bag of chia seeds, I’m addicted.

Favorite thing to shop for = clothing and perfume. self-admitted typical GIRL haha. I love going into Sephora and smelling alllllll the perfumes and playing with the makeup lol, which is actually weird because I don’t really wear anything besides foundation and lip gloss!

As for moving out? I’m moving out of my parent’s house in TWO DAYS….I’m only 22 and just graduated from college, and I’m moving to a different state for graduate school. I’m excited because I’ve found exactly what I want to do with my life and a place to do it, but I’M REALLY SCARED because I’m really not ready to be on my own yet! and like you, I’m close with my parents, and I’ve actually really liked being home this summer….grass is always greener on the other side right 🙂

  37. August 8, 2011 8:31 pm

OH MY GOSH I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU!!! your going to do AWESOME Girl. i have no doubt you will dominate this move and SOAR. this is your chance to shine. God has so much in store for you, a whole world waiting for you! i love you!

  38. August 8, 2011 8:39 pm

AHHHH! Getting your own place sounds SO exciting! I’d be jumping up and down too if I were you 😉
And omg nooooo; I HATE dropping my food and breaking my bowls; it’s happened way too many times -_-

And besides food, I like shopping for shoeeees! I used to hate it…but now I love it haha!

  39. August 8, 2011 8:56 pm

Yay..that’s so exciting that you’re moving so soon!!! I guess broken bowls just means that you can shop for some new ones! I think that my favorite thing to shop for is shoes! I love them and they usually aren’t hard to find ones that fit (unlike jeans).

I adore homewares and things like that… in fact our mutual love for them made my mother and I open up our own homewares shop (www.pantoufle.com.au :)). The other day I needed some retail therapy and came home with the most divine dark stone soft-edged cheese platter and oyster-pearl-shell mini-dishes for the top. I barely even eat cheese and I still live at home. But the set was so amazing I had to have it.
I am living again at home, but I moved out at 21 and lived and worked overseas for two years, during which I got ill with an ED. I loved living outside of home at the time, but I moved back with my parents when I returned to Australia last year and I am still here. Like you, we get along so well and having a stable, supportive family is a great comfort in recovery. And from living very independently for a while, it was so cosy and novel to have a warm, inviting family to come home to every night. But I do now look forward to moving out and gaining independence soon, even though my mum seems like yours – she’s going to have to take a while to adjust again to a quieter house 🙂 But it’s more incentives to invite them over and spoil them in your new place!

    • August 9, 2011 7:29 am

Hehe I don’t think I’m even going to have to invite mine over. I’m pretty sure they’re gonna demand their own set of keys and just show up whenever 😆

While food-shopping is the most fun thing ever, I also have a HuGe (and dangerous and way to expencive) love for online clothes shopping! Enjoy your week<3

    • August 9, 2011 7:28 am

OMG if I had smashed a bowl like that there would be MEGA tears for aaaaaaaaaages. I don’t know what I’d do if I smashed my favourite Peter Rabbit plates and bowls 😦

YAY FOR MOVING OUT! What an exciting period of your life 🙂 I haven’t moved out yet. I’m still only 21 though. My brother only just moved out and he’s 24. Although that’s not bad at all. My Dad didn’t move out until he was 29……………..

My favourite thing (besides food) to shop for is make up, nail polish, necklaces… accessories and what not. I don’t really like buying clothes because EVEN if I try it on, I always buy the wrong size. ALWAYS! Oh, woe is me.

    xxx

  52. August 9, 2011 3:55 am

Eeeeee I’m sooo excited for you!! I totally know the feeling!! 🙂 I’m now obsessed with buying stuff for my place and oh there’s a new obsession with cute plates, cutlery and pretty decorative stuff. Before I had my own place I would never have dreamed about loving buying ‘homeware’ but now I definitely love it..I feel so grown up haha!
It was pretty hard for my parents when I moved out too. Especially because my younger brother was going to university at the same time as me because I’d taken time out of education from ED stuff..so they went from having 2 kids in the house to none. They were totally lost at first, especially my mum who did everything for us..washing, cleaning our rooms (we were spoilt :P), cooking for my brother, driving us places..and then suddenly she had nothing to do except look after my Dad and it totally messed up her routine. Their lives kind of revolved around me and my brother. They soon got used to it though and although they do miss us, they are definitely loving having more quality time together and doing things spontaneously more because they know they don’t have to worry about what me and my brother want to do and if we have other commitments etc. 🙂
I am in LOVE with that sofa by the way! SO cool! I love interior design…I designed my whole bedroom back home and it looked like a palace hehe 😛 If I wasn’t doing fashion I would love to do interior design..

  53. August 9, 2011 4:44 am

I loooove shopping for home decor! Seriously, if I had an unlimited amount of money, my life would be awesome. 🙂

  54. August 9, 2011 6:31 am

I love shopping for home furnishings and decor! I’m so excited for you and cannot wait to see what you do with your new home n terms of decoration. Yes lady, I want to see your new home progress and flourish. I’m sure you will make it loom wonderful! 🙂

  55. August 9, 2011 6:35 am

Oh no! Sorry about your bowl. 😦 I’ve done that way too many times to count!

I love shopping for clothes! I’m planning on doing a big shopping trip for fall clothes in a few weeks and I can’t wait. I’m already browsing websites and getting ideas haha. Besides that, I love buying kitchen stuff like appliances, dishes, bakeware, etc.

I’m SO excited for you about your new place. 😀 I sort of moved out when I went to university… but I still come home for the summers, so I still feel like my parents’ house is my real home. Plus I’ve moved apartments a lot, so none of them ever feel permanent. I’m excited for when I get to move into a place of my own for the long-term so that I can really make it feel like home.

  56. August 9, 2011 7:05 am

Clothes is second on my shopping list. Once I get in the zone, I reallyyyyy get in the zone and I come home with practically a whole new wardrobe. It’s so bad, which is why I try to steer clear of the mall as much as possible.
I really hope you remade that snack!
And I do not blame you at all for living with your parents, I really don’t see anything wrong with it! There’s too much pressure to be “independent” aka living on your own as soon as you graduate highschool, but family is family and they’re the most important people!

wow you finally found a place, I am so excited for you. it will be the start of a brand new adventure for you. 😀 I can imagine it will be a little odd at first and may take some adjustments without your parents being there, but i think that it will be your time to shine, and just think of the peace and quiet and all the baking you can do without anyone in the way. 😀 ohhh and i cannot wait to see it. You should vlog us around it. 😀

    Love Jess xx

Love that couch!! If I had my way, I would totally have a white couch. Good luck with paint colors. And try not to break anything else 😛 I moved out when I was 18, but moved back home for a year after I transferred schools. It actually wasn’t that weird though. Now when I go home all I can think is “thank god I live on my own, you people are crazy!” he he 😛

Oh no! Sad about another broken dish 😦 But don’t ever apologize for being excited to move! Seriously! That’s SUCH an exciting thing and I’m SO SO happy for you 🙂

    Ooh that’s so exciting!
I have yet to move out but I’ll soon be leaving for uni so that’s kind of like moving out 😛
We’ve never so much as moved house so I’m a bit nervous but mostly I’m just excited!
Your food looks delicious as always 🙂

i’ve never moved out! I guess in a year from now i’ll be checking out for college, which will be difficult because I’m really close to my parents as well. I’m actually going far from home for college for this reason — I don’t want to depend on them too much, because I totally would if I was close enough! I bet decorating and customizing your own place is exciting. It’s like redoing your bedroom a couple of times (which i haven’t done since I was 3).

AH shopping for anything is so so much fun. I’m a shopper at heart:). Besides food, which I seriously get wayyyy too excited about, I love to shop for shoes. And nail polish. I’m so sorry about your bowl that happens to me wayyy too frequently thanks to being a wee bit clumsy.

Anyways, love your blog and I’m so excited to read more!

Aw poor dish! Speaking of dishes, I love shopping for that kind of stuff. Cute plates, tiny spoons, and colorful bowls 😀 They’re adorable! I love shopping for clothes too. The sofa is something I would consider buying. It would be so much fun decorating and picking out furniture! I was at the Home Depot today actually. They have some of the coolest appliances ever! Anyway, I’m so excited for you!! Can’t wait to get a virtual tour once you get settled in haha.
