. WIAW… round twelve .

July 27, 2011

EeeeEeee. Thank you guys for all of the congrats on my new place! πŸ˜€

It’s so nice to share my excitement with others, and I wish more than anything that I could invite you all over for a housewarming party. Unfortunately, I can’t (unless you happen to be in the neighborhood in mid September)… BUT I promise to give you tour as soon as I move in, and then take you along on all of my decorating shenanigans. It’ll be good times, I promise.

But enough about that. There’s been too much talk of life around these parts lately, and not enough food. So let’s cut to the chase and get to the good stuff. It isΒ WIAW, after all…

… and it all started with my absolute favorite Β breakfast

[Eggy bananafied steel cut oats topped with almond butter and pudding]

I hope you guys aren’t getting too tired of seeing this sucker around, because I can’t honestly see myself getting tired of eating him any time soon. He’s me reason for getting out of bed in the morning. My reason for living. He’s what gives me the strength to make it through each day!

Whooaaaa-kay, Amanda. Let’s not get too carried away here.

Ahem. Where was I? Ahh yes… After spending the majority of the morning stalking food blogs, getting decorating ideas from magazines, and almost spilling a bottle of pink nail polish all over my laptop keyboard (definitely a close call), it was time for aΒ pre-workout snack

[Cottage cheese mixed with vanilla protein powder and cocoa. Banana and almond butter]

… which was yet another repeat offender. BUT, today’s workout was something new, at least. It was my first time doing workout B of stage 2 of the NROLFW plan; and promise not to laugh when I tell you that, prior to my workout, I spent a good 30 minutes trying to figure out how to do most of the moves in it? πŸ˜† I’m still kind of a noobie when it comes to strength training, so I’ve got a lot to learn…

One thing I doΒ know a good deal about, though, is how to fuel myself properly; and since you’re supposed to take in a high protein meal after working your muscles,Β lunchΒ was just that…

[Greek yogurt with Β Kashi Honey Sunshine, Puffins, and trail mix.Β Mango tofu protein pudding]

… butΒ dessertΒ was just for fun…

Oh, and it was also an attempt to distract me from how much pain my poor shaky limbs were in. Very ow. Workout 1, Amanda 0. BUT… I win in the end anyways, because even though I get my butt whooped, I’ll be completely ripped before you know it…

… [in my dreams]…

Shoosh, head – don’t be so snarky.

Aaaaand I promise that I’ll [attempt to] stop talking to myself, now. Please don’t call the men in white coats to come get me. I just tend to get a little craz[ier] when I get excited. But I’m harmless, really πŸ˜‰

… for nowΒ anyways…

A little bit more of this crazy running around might just send me over the edge. I thought things would get easier once I actually found a place that I liked, but thus far, the opposite has been true. Countless condo viewings have been replaced with numerous meetings, endless document signings, and a host of other legal mumbo jumbo that I absolutely can’t stand. Can we just skip to the part where I get to move in? Please? My sanity is at stake here.Β Le sigh…Β Welcome to adult life.

But at least I’ve had plenty of good snacks to help keep me grounded…

[Chocolate pudding and strawberries]

[Chocolate chip cookie dough balls. Baked lentil chips & Hummus]

And I usually manage to finish everything beforeΒ dinner

[Sweet and savory oats with cottage cheese, avocado, and jam]

… so at least I can enjoy that in peace and have a nice quiet evening at home to relax and unwind… only so that I can do it all again tomorrow πŸ˜‰ Good times, though. No complaints.

And now it’s time for a bit of blog stalking, some more snacking (I’m thinking popcorn with coconut oil, cinnamon, and brown sugar), and then off to bed. Happy Wednesday, loves!

What do you enjoy more? Food or life based posts?

  3. July 27, 2011 5:55 pm

hey, don’t feel bad about repeating your breakfast…I eat the exact same thing for breakfast every single day because it’s just so good.

I definitely enjoy life based posts more…but I do love me some food photography πŸ™‚ Like yours, because you’re an amazing photographer.

  4. July 27, 2011 5:57 pm

Yum! I need to hop on the eggified oats but it’s still too hot out for those! I love posts about both! I think decorating and food go hand in hand πŸ™‚
The last thing I ate was my soy banana homemade pudding delish!

  5. July 27, 2011 5:58 pm

I enjoy any of your posts darling! Yay for a good workout!

And the whole reason I get out of bed is breakfast too! I heart breakfast : ) its the best meal of the day to me!

I just had a salad full of veggies, hummus, and cottage cheese!

  6. July 27, 2011 5:59 pm

Ahhh totally looking forward to the tour!! Loving that lovely salad beast and your thoughts on being soar. The workout may win the battle but YOU will win the war. Goo girl!

  7. July 27, 2011 6:05 pm

Yay! Super stoked for the condo tour m’dear! πŸ˜€ Your pre-workout snack has my heart a-smilin’, isn’t cottage cheese with protein powder THE BOMB?! Just like your love affair with glorious eggy oats, I can’t ever, EVER get enough of my cottage cheese gloops. πŸ˜‰
I enjoy posts about both food and life, especially when the two intertwine. Food can make life so delicious and grand, it feels amazing to have a healthy relationship with my fuel again! πŸ™‚

  8. July 27, 2011 6:10 pm

Wow, that was a close call with the pink nailpolish. I have spilt (spilled?) plenty of food things on my laptop keyboard it’s a mess. Those baked lentil chips were dill flavored ( I pay close attention to them pictures) I love dill! I like both the life and food posts, a little bit of both makes the perfect recipe for good blog reading πŸ˜‰

  9. July 27, 2011 6:12 pm

well i would say both I think a balace between the two is just right. loving the oat ideas!!

  10. July 27, 2011 6:20 pm

  11. July 27, 2011 6:20 pm

your pictures are always so awesome! and I love hearing about both, food and life. Hmm best thing I ate today? probably some high-protein vegan g-free cheesecake. yes.

  12. July 27, 2011 6:24 pm

I enjoy both types of posts on YOUR blog, but not on most people’s πŸ™‚

Last thing I ate = a Bonk Breaker High Protein PBJ bar.

  13. July 27, 2011 6:24 pm

I loooove all your eats today – for real, I want all of it!

  14. July 27, 2011 6:25 pm

[1] I like the combination posts, to learn more about your life, and to get new ideas for the lovely-looking food. Speaking of which, and you’ve probably mentioned it before – any good protein powder recommendations?

[2] Last thing I ate – Newman’s Own Milk Chocolate. We always keeps a stash of chocolate in the house, and I bought Steve a bar of this one yesterday. So delicious!

    Have a good night!

  15. July 27, 2011 6:32 pm

I think you do a GREAT job of mixing life and food posts. I always love how you tie them both together πŸ™‚

I thought I was the only 1 who took an age getting strength moves right!-took me aaages to stop falling over during stability ball jack knives and have the ball roll away to the other end of the gym(embarrassing!)
Last thing I ate = cocoa eggy steelies, topped with prunes(love), crunchy pb and caramel pudding- twas scrumptious! And I’m about to eat these salt & vinegar flax, poppyseed potato chip thingies, yum.
All your eats look picture perfectly drool inducing as usual!

  17. July 27, 2011 6:38 pm

Getting your own place is definitely a big step into adulthood πŸ˜‰ You must be so excited!! It’ll be mid-september before you even know it. It is, after all, almost August. Eep!
And whenever I’ve got a new workout planned I always spend ample time prior watching the move and then doing it myself, lol.
I love food AND life posts πŸ™‚

  22. July 27, 2011 7:00 pm

Ah, I just bought baked lentil chips from TJ’s a few minutes ago. They’re my favorite. Mine aren’t cucumber-dill flavored, though. Those sound yummmmm. I think a mix of food and life is what I find most entertaining when I read blogs. I love to see what people eat, but I like knowing the person behind the food as well! And seriously girl, I’m the worst repeat offender ever, so no shame in eating the same breakfast every morning. Humans are creatures of habit by nature. We find. We like. We stick. πŸ™‚

  23. July 27, 2011 8:21 pm

Just started reading your blog – I’m a huge fan! your personal story is so inspiring, you’ve really come a long way πŸ™‚

CONGRATULATIONS on the new condo! your very own? no obnoxious roommates? That must be so exciting! I’m about to move into my very first apartment too…but my two new roommates were there first. baby steps haha!

I wouldn’t be able to pick whether I like food or life posts better- I think they’re best combined πŸ™‚

The last thing I ate? cinnamon raisin toast with copious amounts of crunchy peanut butter. strawberries and blueberries topped with vanilla frozen yogurt on the side. No judgement about your food-repeating offenses – I’ve been committing this one every night for a few years now haha!

  24. July 27, 2011 8:22 pm

I like food recipe posts, especially if the photos are good like yours always are πŸ™‚ but I prefer life posts because they lift my mood. I just ate an oatmeal raisin cookie.

Love food and life posts..I mean blogging is about you and you journey right? Not about what everyone else…SO happy you scored your new home! Xoxo

  27. July 27, 2011 8:56 pm

Oh my gosh all of your stuff looks delicious :). Pudding in oatmeal sounds amazing…I should try that! I think I would enjoy more food-based posts if I was better in the kitchen. Perhaps that day will eventually come

  28. July 27, 2011 9:07 pm

I think i’ll join your for popcorn =) Happy WIAW Amanda! thanks for making me hungry as always! hehe ❀

  29. July 27, 2011 9:07 pm

Your eats look scrumptious! I love love love those puddings. Definitely a new favorite! I adore mixing them with a splash of milk and warming them up to turn them to sauce as a topping if I’m feeling… well.. SAUCY. Was that cheesy? Sorry.

I’m feeling you on that Greek yogurt. So many toppings you can’t even see the yogurt beneath it. That’s how I roll. The yogurt is merely a nutritious vehicle for the crack- errrrrrr- Puffins. Yeah, Puffins. That’s what I meant.

By the way- how’s that workout plan working for your arms? I have tiny, tiny little arms from Irish dancing (all the muscle goes to your legs), and I’m considering giving that book a go! I’m a little intimidated, though. Like you I’ve never really done any strength training! You’re so inspiring!

I’m a big fan of mixing food with life in posts- shoot, you’ve seen mine. I try to write posts that I would personally love to read, and that means a good balance of everything usually. But girlie, I would read your blog even if you up and changed it to American football analyzations (and oh. my. gosh. does football instantly turn me off). You are seriously a BRILLIANT writer. Please get to publishing that book of yours, because I would buy it in a heartbeat.

And since I was away when you found out your exciting news, here’a goes:

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW PLACE! Eeeeee! I’m seriously so so so excited for you. Can I come live in your closet? Wait, no. Your pantry? Yes- pantry would be better.

“What happened to all those muffins I just baked?” Oops.

The last thing I ate- a good-sized bowl of soy chocolate ice cream while my dad ate a good-sized bowl of vanilla cow ice cream. Nom.

Ok, this comment is getting a bit excessive. I’ll stop now…

    No wait, one more thing!

    Love you, chica! πŸ™‚

    • July 28, 2011 8:53 am

Eeehehe. Oh girlie your comments always make me smile. Love you πŸ˜€ And I’m feeling you on the arms… I have little chicken arms as well, but they’re getting better! My upper body strength has definitely improved, and I’ve been noticing more definition in my arms, so yay for lifting! I was intimidated in the beginning too, but you should definitely give it a try! You might be surprised at how much you like it. I fell in loveeee.

Oh, and don’t worry. I don’t plan to take up football analysis any time soon. That’s one sport I don’t care too much for, either…

      • July 28, 2011 10:31 am

Good thing on the football. PHEW!

And I ought to give it a go! I’d love to have a little bit of definition in the arm department.

  30. July 27, 2011 9:15 pm

I will never get sick of seeing your pudding oats as I know that I can only just imagine how they taste each time they appear. I like a nice balance between foodie and life posts πŸ™‚

The last thing I ate was an apple. It may sound boring but it was OH SO satisfying because I was feeling hungry AND thirsty and there’s nothing like a juicy apple to quench your thirst and (partially) fill you up. Although if I was eating an apple on an empty stomach I’d be starving after having finished it! Always eat apples with other foooooooooooood!!!!!!!

  31. July 27, 2011 9:32 pm

I’m a teeny bit behind the times but CONGRATS on the new place! Woooooo! I’m not even kidding when I say I’m SO excited to see what it looks like and how you decorate it. If your decor skills are any match for your FOOD decor skills, I have a feeling your place is going to be instant fab.

I love food and life posts all mixed into one big happy picture filled message of delight. You’re great at that. Keep em coming!

Last thing I ate: a bowl of mixed greens and….popcorn with salsa ranch dressing. As a bedtime snack. Gotta honour those random cravings!

  32. July 27, 2011 9:43 pm

“Eggy Bananafied”…haha, Love it! I think I like food posts best, mostly because I’m the type of person that could eat nearly the same thing everyday for the rest of my life and not care. Food posts give me good ideas and recipes!

  34. July 27, 2011 11:21 pm

Your eats are always my favorits- I never ever get tired πŸ˜€ I really like that almost all of them is a little chocolate-y or nutbutter-y!
I cant wait to get to see your new place, and Im so excited to see your “style”! I have a feeling it is really good πŸ˜‰
I just woke up, so the last thing I ate was the chocolate tart last night- so sorry it is all gone
Have a wonderful day Amanda ❀

  35. July 28, 2011 1:44 am

I really need to try some of those puddings they look amazing. I love a mix of food and life posts as I find both as equally interesting! I do love getting inspired by your meals though! Last thing I ate was a surprising breakfast assembled from the contents of my freezer and a new little thing I made up that tastes yummy – frozen blueberries, rhubarb compote, muffin and coconut vanilla ‘yoghurt’ πŸ™‚

You always take such nice photos of your food. And I really like the cute heart bowl you use for your oats.
Try maple syrup on your popcorn! Cant go wrong with maple syrup.. (I bought a new one just three days ago and its almost all gone.. I put it on EVERYTHING)

I like both kinds of posts to be honest. Both are interesting.
Last thing I ate was a salad of carrot, zucchini, edamame, spinach, avo and a few other veges tossed together with some hummus.
See, Im going to dinner with friends tonight, they booked the table for 8 o clock, so I wont be eating till like 8:30 – 9… which is way late for me, I usually eat at 6:00. So this salad was my pre dinner snack to make me last, but not fill me up too much πŸ˜›

    • July 28, 2011 8:59 am

Maple syrup on popcorn? Oooo now there’s something to try! I sometimes dip my popcorn into honey and LOVE how that tastes, so I’m gonna have to give maple syrup a try.

  37. July 28, 2011 2:58 am

Your oats always look so good! I am about to go replicate your breakfast but will have to improvise and use vanilla alpro yogurt instead of pudding!

  38. July 28, 2011 3:53 am

Ohh I will never ever get sick of seeing your beautiful food…ever ever…:)
I love ALL of your posts lovely – you are one of my fave bloggers of all time so no matter what you post, I’m going to love it! ❀ But a balance of life and food is always good because they go hand in hand I guess, food is a part of life and keeps us going! πŸ™‚ Plus there is more to life than just food, as yummy as it is hehe!

  39. July 28, 2011 4:20 am

I’m happy to hear you got a good workout. That’s always a nice, accomplished kind of feeling.
The last thing I ate was coffee n’ organic milk. Doesn’t count? Then I guess kashi golean and honey bunches of oats mixed together with unsweetened almond milk. I just can’t ever get used to almond milk in my coffee!

  40. July 28, 2011 5:41 am

I like food recipe posts, with a little bit of life thrown in. “Shoosh, head – don’t be so snarky” made me laugh out loud…I say that to myself all the time πŸ™‚

  41. July 28, 2011 6:20 am

Haha whenever I follow workouts from magazines, it always takes me ages to figure out how to do the moves too. Actually, there are still some moves that I just can’t figure out. Like a reverse crunch? How the heck does that work? πŸ˜›

Those lentil chips sound so good. I love dill flavoured foods!

    • July 28, 2011 9:09 am

Haha reverse crunches were part of my workout πŸ˜€ And I think what you’re supposed to do is lie on your back and use your abs to lift your butt and knees up into the air. They’re very ouch!

  42. July 28, 2011 6:29 am

Food and Life. Mix them together and what have you got?! A GRREAt blog post!
Seriously what is life without food or food without life?…. I think we talked about this πŸ™‚

Lentil chips are a new food for my brain to imagine. My brain is thinkn’ they are pretty tasty though!

This post was Hilarious! LOVED it πŸ˜€

  43. July 28, 2011 7:31 am

I love those puddings! I took the caramel one with me to watch HP the other night and it tastes amazing!! πŸ™‚

  44. July 28, 2011 7:40 am

Both! Food/life go hand in hand, so I think posts should include both as well πŸ™‚

I just finished up my morning oatbran/chocolate protein powder breakfast at my desk. It is my 9am treat most days. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it!!

  46. July 28, 2011 8:53 am

I don’t mind your meal repeats! I didn’t get a chance to comment on your last post but seriously CONGRATS on getting the new place! I’m so happy for you πŸ™‚ I’m sure you’ll be much better at decorating than I will be once I get into my new place this weekend, eek! I love food and life posts equally. Most blogs I read tend to focus on food so hearing about the blogger’s life is such a nice break. Last thing I ate? Overnight oats with PB, duh! πŸ˜›

  47. July 28, 2011 9:10 am

Ever since I saw the chocolate pudding on your blog, I have been so tempted to buy it.

  48. July 28, 2011 9:44 am

I like life posts, w/ food thrown in there because food is a big part of life! Nothings wrong with either or though, i enjoy alll your posts. πŸ™‚

Last thing I ate was a bowl of oat bran (I almost said brain. πŸ˜› ) w/ almond butter and jam.

  49. July 28, 2011 9:52 am

I like posts that a mix of food + life stuff. I like to get to “know” different bloggers that way.

I ate eggs and an english muffin for breakfast and I’m having an early lunch so no mid morning snack — although normally around this time I’d be having some nuts, carrots and an apple.

  50. July 28, 2011 10:02 am

Congrats on your new place again! Can’t wait for the tour πŸ˜€ I like both food and life based posts. Balanced out together I think they make the best combination. The last thing I ate was overnight oats with pudding. I’m in love with puddings! Adding them to my breakfast is one of the best things ever. You give me awesome ideas :] When I first looked at the NROLFW workout plan it took me a while to get it down. I saved it as a note on my phone and took it to the gym with me so I won’t forget the moves haha. You’re not alone on this one!

  51. July 28, 2011 10:44 am

Just catching up and I wanted to say congrats on getting the place girl!! That’s so exciting!! πŸ™‚

  52. July 28, 2011 11:56 am

Everything always look so good. I like both food & life posts because it keeps interesting!

I am totally stealing your idea for popcorn with coconut oil, brown sugar & cinnamon. My goodness!

  53. July 28, 2011 12:41 pm

I love a good blend of food and life posts :D. And of course all the empowering posts you write!

The last thing I ate was polenta (love polenta!), a big huge pile of nutritional yeast tamari kale chips (first time making them, and I’m in love. Although all the salt left my mouth rather raw :-?, and peanut butter straight toff the spoon (I don’t think you would like that though. You know on, with the fact that peanuts are out to get you– more for me though?). Not the most perfectly balances meal to eat (but who cares right?) but it made me happy and hit the spot for all my cravings :D.

Also, that pudding with strawberries looks SO FREAKING GOOD. I love fruit and chocolate pudding πŸ™‚

  54. July 28, 2011 12:55 pm

This post is so fun! I love your vocabulary. Snarky? Best word ever.
And of course, your eats are as beautiful as usual.
Good luck with all your paperwork and moving! I know it can be such a pain to pack your life up and then let it spill out again into a new environment. But it’s great when it’s all done πŸ˜‰

  55. July 28, 2011 12:55 pm

Ok, I have two burning questions! The first one sounds really rude, but I don’t mean it to be in the least! It’s just blunt..but what’s your job? I’m just curious πŸ™‚
I also wonder, do you get hungry before all your meals? Sometimes I get so miffed when I have a big post-workout snack or something, and then just do not get hungry for the next meal. I eat anyway, cos I know I need it, but again – I’m just curious (or a rude nosey lady..heh.).

I love life and food posts! Your photos are stunning and I love your flavour combos etc, BUT I love reading about your life too πŸ™‚

    • July 28, 2011 3:00 pm

You’re not being rude at all πŸ™‚ Right now, I work for my dad at our family business. I do a lot of office, financial, and customer relations work. As for eating… it depends. My appetite has been kind of out of control lately, but there are definitely times where I don’t feel hungry and eat anyways. I notice that if I only eat when I’m hungry, I tend to undereat, and all the nasty symptoms of it start catching up to me after a short while.

  56. July 28, 2011 1:08 pm

What a great blog!! The pictures are amazing {makes me very hungry haha} and you’re a great writer! I am glad I stumbled upon this. Your story is also very inspiration and very relatable. Cant wait to read more!

  57. July 28, 2011 1:29 pm

I can never get over how beautifully you photograph even the simplest things! How come I can never make my salads look that pretty?! Haha.

And congrats on the new place! I’ve been short on time so I haven’t been commenting regularly, but I’ve read everything! So excited for you; is this your first time away from home?

  58. July 30, 2011 1:18 pm

I’m pretty sure I’d have to say I enjoy all your posts! They’re always so well written and fun to read πŸ™‚

And I’d love to have a ‘eat like Amanda’ day because you’ve got some seriously delicious eats going on over there!
