. a factual friday .

July 15, 2011

Happy Friday friends! πŸ˜€

Hope it was a fabulous one for ya. It definitely was over here. Three reasons why? Well, it started with a good breakfast alongside some quality reading…

… which lead to an afternoon spent down by the river with my favorite fuzzy face…

[she got a little tuckered out…]

… and included filling out of a fun survey that the lovely Tori came up with. I definitely have a soft spot for these things, so I hope you’re not getting sick of them yet! Enjoy your Friday night, loves!

. – . – . – .

Three ways that I’m still a kid…

1.Β My all time favorite movies are by Disney. Beauty and the Beast? The Lion King? The Little Mermaid? Just a few of my favorites, and a small part of my ever growing collection. And I have no shame in admitting that sometimes I get all misty-eyed while watching them. The pound scene in Lady and the Tramp? Gets me every. single. time…

2.Β I still sleep with a teddy that I’ve had since I was teeny tiny. His name is Trips and I love him.

3.Β I believe that cookies and milk can solve almost any of life’s problems. At least temporarily…

Β

. – . – . – .

Three ways that I’m already old…

1.Β I eat a lotΒ of fiber. Actually, I probably have twice the recommended amount on a daily basis. It’s not something I do consciously – all of my favorite foods just seem to be high in fiber.

2.Β I stick to a grandmotherly sleeping schedule. I’m usually in bed by 10 and up by 5:30.

3.Β I look at how the world is changing and ruminate about how much better it was when I was younger.

[I’ve been seeing a tonne of roasted potatoes around the blog world lately, and it left me craving them like crazy. Today’s lunch included baked potato rounds coated in olive oil and crushed rosemary, roasted asparagus, and scrambled eggs with some veggies]

. – . – . – .

Three things that I want to do…

1.Β Get my PhD. in clinical psychology and go on to specialize in eating disorders, so that I can help other women overcome their demons and learn to love themselves for the beautiful things that they are.

2.Β Write a book. Even if I never get published, I still think it would be an amazing accompishment.

3.Β Travel. I love seeing new places and learning about different cultures, and travelling is one of those experiences that no one can take away from you. Topping my list of places to visit? New Zealand, Egypt, Brazil, Rome, Paris, London, NYC. Now if only I could skip the whole packing/unpacking part…

[The last muffin. Sniffle. Was good, though. Was good…]

. – . – . – .

Three ways that I’m a stereotypical boy…

1.Β I love food and I love to eat. No shame πŸ˜€

2.Β I prefer lifting over cardio… Even if I doΒ get funny looks when I venture into “man turf” in the gym…

3.Β I’m really good around cars. Fixing. Driving. I do it better than some men.

. – . – . – .

Three ways that I’m a stereotypical girl…

1.Β I try to deny it, but I [not so secretly] love pink…

2.Β I love makeup. I don’t wear as much now as I did when I was younger, but I still enjoy playing around with it. To me, it’s just another art form, and the face a type of canvas.

3.Β Diamonds Chocolate is my best friend.

Β

. – . – . – .

Three things I want to try within the next three months…

1.Β Get my own apartment and move out. I had to stay with my parents when my eating disorder hit because I couldn’t manage the added stress of having to fend for myself while I was recovering, but now that I’m better, it’s time to get back on my own two feet. Very soon…

2.Β Bake my very own loaf of bread. It sounds ridiculous, but working with yeast has always kind of intimidated me. It just seems so complicated and easy to mess up.

3.Β Go on vacation. It’s been far too long since I’ve been out of this city, and I think it’s high time that we spend some time apart. I’d love to go somewhere far off and exotic, but even a roadtrip down to Cali and a stop at Disneyland would suit me juuuuuust fine πŸ˜€

. – . – . – .

Three things that I like about myself…

1.Β My positivity. Being dragged through the depths of an ED hell really helped me to appreciate all the beauty that life has to offer, and I love being able to find happiness in all the small things.

2.Β The fact that I’m comfortable with who I am. I used to try to mold myself into a person that I thought I shouldΒ be, and it made me absolutely miserable. It took a lot of hard work, but I finally learned to accept myself for the girl I am, and I kind of like her πŸ˜‰

3.Β My stubbornness. This is both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because it gives me the drive and determination that I need to get out of any jam that I might find myself in. A curse because it usually puts me in that jam in the first place. And speaking of jam…

[My favorite dinner! Sweet and savory oats, with hummus and strawberry jam. This time I tried cooking the whole egg into the oats instead of just the egg white, and I think I might be in love…]

. – . – . – .

Three of my everyday essentials…

1.Β Breakfast… which includes oatmeal, bananas, chocolate, almond butter, and coffee.

2.Β My computer. It’s sad, but true. I can’t even remember the last time I completely unplugged. I can do it for a few hours, but it always makes me feel like I’m missing out on something…

3.Β Books. I can’t seem to still still long enough to watch a movie or a show on TV, but I have no problem devoting a few hours a day to reading a good book.

. – . – . – .

Three things that scare me…

1.Β Horror movies. It’s probably been around 10 years since I’ve watched a real horror movie because they. freak. me. out. The last one I saw was ‘The Ring’, and I couldn’t sleep for like 2 weeks afterwards…

2.Β Throwing up. Emetophobia, anyone? I can’t even remember the last time I threw up, but it’s probably been a good 15+ years. Feeling nauseous sends me into an absolute panic, and hearing someone else do it gives me the shakes as well. Okay. Gross.

3.Β Deep water. Not because I can’t swim, but because I don’t like not knowing what’s around/beneath me. What if the Creature from the Black Lagoon grabs my foot and pulls me under? Eep!

. – . – . – .

I wanna hear one of these three things about YOU, ’cause what kind of friends would we be if I’m the only one doing all the talking/sharing? πŸ˜‰

I like your goal to get your PhD. to treat women with eating disorders!

My plan is to go back to school to get an MA in Counselling Psychology and work with clients that have body/self-image/self-esteem issues. Great goal!

    Three things that scare me:
    1) Lack of access to a hygienic bathroom- when I studied abroad in India it KILLED me to be out and about in the day time with no access to any decent public restrooms
    2) Parking Garages- ESPECIALLY at night
    3) Spiders: Absolutely horrified

  6. July 15, 2011 5:25 pm

The three reasons you’re a kid are EXACTLY the same as mine!! hahaha!! πŸ˜€

  7. July 15, 2011 5:26 pm

Haha so true about the man part of the gym!!! It’s so funny how it’s like that…
Three of my every day essentials: COFFEE, exercise, and a call to my amazing boyfriend πŸ™‚

  8. July 15, 2011 5:32 pm

I’m pretty sure I got goosebumps when I found out about the new Pooh movie.
It’s no coinkydink that so many of my friends were like “you were the first person I was excited for”…not their kids. Me.

Oh I totally feel you on the whole being-a-grandmother bit! I woke up at 4:30 the other morning after being in bed by 9:00… – _- Now that should just be plain illegal.

You should bake a quick bread recipe! You don’t need a bread machine for them, and the basic ones are pretty simple πŸ™‚

I still sleep with a teddy bear as well πŸ˜€ They’re so cute! Three things I want to do.. finish up with school, move to a different city, and I would love to travel too. Now that I think about it, I think I might be getting too much fiber too! haha. Well that can’t hurt right?

  12. July 15, 2011 5:46 pm

I love this! You better visit me if you make it to NYC!
    1. I turned orange twice…beta carotene from eating too many carrots…whoops
    2. I am a notorious movie quoter, I can’t go a day with out dropping at least one
    3. I was scared of carbs for over a year…whew, glad that’s over πŸ™‚

  13. July 15, 2011 5:46 pm

Grandmotherly schedules are perfect, if you ask me — you’re asleep when all the crazies are out, and awake before anyone else is! ;P

I’m definitely with you on the emetophobia. And the yeast — it’s really NOT scary. I have no idea why it has such a bad reputation…

This was so much fun! I loved it πŸ™‚ Learning more about my bloggy friends is such a treat! I’m never very good at answering questions about myself but, since you asked πŸ˜‰ Um, Three of my everyday essentials:
    1) Some sort of physical activity (yoga, walking, lifting, dancing….ANYTHING!)
    2) GOOD food (I feel like crap without it)
    3) Kissing my lover and my dogs πŸ™‚

  15. July 15, 2011 5:57 pm

    Three things about me

    1. I have 4 sisters
    2. I had my son when i was 17, hardest and best thing that ever happened to me : )
    3. I used to travel and model full time, great 5 years, was amazing going all over the US , but was also lonely in a way, it happened at the right time of my life though, when I had a bad breakup, and just started my modeling career and it really helped me be more independent and live life!

    Love you!

Something I want to do is try hummus & jam on eggy bananafied oats( which iv been seriously lovin on) , but those as my toppings? Eeh, I’m a little cautious- its …odd, but looks really yummy & I do love a sweet and savoury combo.

  19. July 15, 2011 6:07 pm

I’m a grandma when it comes to bedtime too! My fiance and I will be lying in bed on a weekend night with our little book lights, looking like dorks. Haha! By the way, I want to write a book too. I’ve always wanted to. I’ve actually stared many, but never get far before boredom kicks in.

    Three of my everyday essentials:
    1. A good cup of black tea, first thing in the morning. Always with milk and honey.
    2. A kick-ass workout. (Is “kick-ass” a lame word? Whatever.)
    3. Sleeping next to my fiance.

My complete list of essentials would take a century to write. There are A LOT of things I must have every day! A great breakfast is also one of them. πŸ™‚

  20. July 15, 2011 6:16 pm

I loved reading these, especially the 3 things you want to do! Three things that scare me: airplanes, deep water, and bats. Twice in my life I have woken up with a bat in my room, not a fun experience!

  21. July 15, 2011 6:19 pm

hehe, as usual…there was certainly more than one instance where I found myself nodding in agreement πŸ˜‰ I’ve realized I love pink, too. I used to deny it, now i love wearing it. it’s funny because i still don’t see myself as that much of a girly-girl, which is what i always related pink back to…

you are going to be so amazing working with girls who are going through their own struggles. just look at all the young women you have inspired right here!

  22. July 15, 2011 6:32 pm

I LOVE this post Amanda! πŸ˜€ Especially the three things you want to do and the three things that make you like a kid–I’m the exact same way about my disney movies. The Beauty and the Beast scene when he gives her the library?? Waterworks hardcore!! πŸ˜€
You’d write an amazing book and you’d be a great psychologist, not only are you talented at writing, but you relate to people so well πŸ™‚
    Three things bout me:
    1. My lifelong dream is to live in Australia, working with the marine life as a marine biologist–hopefully married to an Aussie hunk mwahaha πŸ˜‰
    2. I have an insatiable appetite for learning. Any subject, even math intrigues me.
    3. My deepest fear is being kidnapped or eaten alive by some kind of animal, imagine how creepy it would be to see a dinosaur noshin on your legs!!

  23. July 15, 2011 6:40 pm

Loved learning so much more about you, Amanda!

I am on a grandmother schedule too! tonight.. even though it is friday.. it is only 830.. i can barely keep my eyes open.

3 things I am afraid of:

    Birds
Bed Bugs/Lice (it is hard as a teacher in an inner city)
    financial struggle

  24. July 15, 2011 6:45 pm

  27. July 15, 2011 7:45 pm

I am going to answer one of the “what scares me” ones… throwing up is my GREATEST FEAR EVER! When I saw that, I laughed because I could not agree with you more! I didn’t know there was a term for it haha, good to know I am not the only crazy one here πŸ™‚

  28. July 15, 2011 8:02 pm

The three ways you described yourself as old – totally apply to me as well. My sister is constantly telling me I act like a “grandma” but I think my eating disorder just made me see life differently than a lot of people, especially for my age.. And I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing πŸ™‚

1 thing I’m scared of is being left home alone. (if everyone in the house leaves I will have to go outside and sit with my dog – the silence just creeps me out!

  29. July 15, 2011 8:11 pm

Three things I want to do (2 are your same answers!)

    1. Travel
    2. Be a Mom
    3. Write a book (and I agree, even if it is only for me, I don’t care. I’d love to write a book one day)

    Enjoy your weekend!

Umm…when I was in Belgium and woke up completely hung over (read: sick to my stomach and ready to vomit) I actually had a panic attack. It was my first panic attack EVER and it was the scariest thing I’ve ever experienced…all because I am terrified of throwing up.

The last time I threw up I was 5 and had a horrible stomach bug. Otherwise I literally do everything I can so I DONT throw up…which is a horrible experience in and of itself.

First, I’m so down for a roadtrip to D-land. Pick me up on your way, will ya?

    Three things that scare me:
    1. Being anywhere near a sunken ship. I’m seriously shivering just thinking about it. I can’t explain.
    2. Plastic bottles. Oh my god, they gross me out.
    3. Bees. One landed on my arm while I was driving on the highway the other day and I screamed so loud and had to pull off the highway and search my seat for it.

Oh gosh, sounds like the perfect friday to me πŸ™‚
And I loved reading all your fun facts! I’m right there with ya on the ‘three ways that I’m already old’ and quite a slew of your other facts. The last horror movie i saw was ‘Signs’. I actually don’t think that’s even classified as a horror movie, but after watching it I never watched another scary movie.again. I seriously get the creeps and can’t fall asleep or go anywhere alone (like public bathrooms) for weeks. I’m a wimp…hehe

    three of my everyday essentials:
    1) breakfast! – can’t function without it
    2) laptop – i feel weird when I don’t use it
    3) cell phone – i probably rely on technology a little TOO much

Lovely post, Amanda! I can relate to a lot of what you’ve said. πŸ˜€

Three ways that I’m a stereotypical boy: I don’t like shopping, I have a motorcycle (just a scooter, though) and I hate gossip (well, that’s more a way that I’m not a stereotypical girl).

    Have a nice weekend!

  45. July 16, 2011 2:14 am

I love such surveys but for me it is a bigger pleasure to learn interesting facts about other people than to answer the questions myself. I am a very indecisive Libra πŸ™‚ . So I will answer the easiest one – three ways I am still a kid:

    1. I’d always choose a children’s program on TV over the news.
    2. My little purplish-grey friend Eeyore is always in my bed.
    3. Christmas is the most important day of the year πŸ™‚ .

  46. July 16, 2011 3:37 am

I have the same fear of throwing up, too! I start bawling my eyes out when I feel sick because I cannot handle the idea of vomiting. I’m glad I’m not the only one! Oh and I love that New Zealand was the first country you mentioned of places you want to visit πŸ˜‰

I have to make my bed every time I get into it. As in I need REALLY TIGHT sheets otherwise I just get so uncomfortable. I’m really weird like that.

One thing I want to try in the next 3 months? DRIVING! (I’m 21 and I don’t drive………………)

    xxx

  47. July 16, 2011 4:18 am

I too woild love to take a trip this summer – you have to come to NY!

  48. July 16, 2011 4:32 am

Loved learning more about you! You are going to be a wonderful psychologist one day. So many people are already benefiting just from your blog alone!
    Three of my everyday essentials:
    1) Breakfast. I don’t think it needs an explanation but it’s the best meal of the day.
    2) also my computer. I love it. I feel so lost if I don’t turn it on for a day!
    3) a banana. I don’t remember the last time I went a day without eating a banana

  49. July 16, 2011 4:51 am

Eee I love finding more out about you – I feel like we have so much in common!! πŸ™‚ And girly, you will be one heck of an amazing psychologist..you’ve helped me and so many others so much with your words of wisdom and you don’t even have your PhD yet! I can already see you changing many lives in the future..
And I am SO with you on your three things that scare you! I would have answered exactly the same! Last time I was sick was when I was 5 and I had a huge panic attack..I really really hope it never happens to me ever again! And deep water..a big no no..I need to be able to see what is beneath me otherwise I just won’t go there! And I refuse to watch any horror movies EVER. No one bothers to ask me because they know I won’t watch it – I’m a chick flick girly all the way πŸ™‚

  50. July 16, 2011 5:16 am

You should absolutley go for your PhD! I think its your calling. You would do phenominal and the rewards would be endless.

    3 things about me…

    1) I need at least 1 hour a day of “Me time”, whether its reading, running, or sipping coffee on the couch. I need to unwind alone sometimes.
    2) I am the most indecisive person ever, especially when it comes to making dinner plans. I can never decide what type of food or where I want to go. Most of the time I let other people choose, so when I get there it’s like a suprise haha.
    3) I have a serious addiction to baby carrots. I cant seem to open my fridge without grabbing a smal handful of those suckers. I think its the crunch that gets me. I’m suprised I have yet to turn orange.

That is so amazing that you want to go into helping girls with EDs. I think that’s the perfect job for you!!! Where are you thinking of doing your masters/PhD? I think Western has a good program. Hint hint. πŸ˜‰

3 things I want to do:
    Run a 5 or 10K race
    Go to France
    Grow my own veggie garden

    Happy Saturday sweetie πŸ™‚
I had so much fun reading this post! And there is so many things I can relate to, like loving Disney (best movies ever!), I neeed my teddy when I sleep, and getting way to scared when watching horror movies. I once saw Emily Rose, and I slept with the light on for a half year. It was bad!
Three ways that I’m a stereotypical girl:
    1. My huge love for chocolate. I love men, but I would chose chocolate over them any day!
    2. My addiction to dresses. I use any opportunity to use a dress. And to buy new ones πŸ™‚
    3. I actually want to be a stay at home wife and mom. I quite old-fashon when it comes to this πŸ˜› I would LOVE to stay home and clean the house every day, make 3 course dinners for my family and bake cookies for my kids πŸ™‚

  53. July 16, 2011 7:15 am

I whole heartedly agree with all of your points for being old! Was lovely to find out more about you too πŸ™‚ Three things that I’d like to do also include writing a book, working for myself and buying a proper house!

Three things I want to do:
    1. Finish remodeling my kitchen…these types of projects always take forever!
    2. Compete in a triathlon
    3. Read more…surely I won’t be busy for the rest of my life!

  55. July 16, 2011 10:59 am

What a fun survey! Three things that make me a typical girl:

    1. I always have to have my toenails painted
    2. I practically live in dresses
    3. My favorite thing in the world is cuddling!

  56. July 16, 2011 12:38 pm

I love this post! I love the 3 reasons you are still young….occasionaly my friends and I will have a sleepover and build a blanket fort and watch disney movies inside of it πŸ™‚ And cookies and milk do solve everything….or at least make everything a little better πŸ™‚

  57. July 16, 2011 12:38 pm

I am totally with you on so many of these! I think your career path is truly amazing. So if I become a dietician i will send my eating disorder clients your way because i know that you will be so good at that job, okay? okay.

Three things I want to do:
    1. Run a marathon
    2. Live in a foreign country
    3. Become that family member who everyone knows for bringing the best dishes to the parties.

  58. July 16, 2011 1:04 pm

I eat too much fibre, I have a Gran schedule, i hate how the world is changing, I think you should come to London (yes for sure!), I love eating, I love pink, I wish I could bake bread, I too am very stubborn, I love breakfast, and I’m scared of throwing up and deep water too. I believe we are the same person, at least partially :p

  59. July 16, 2011 1:20 pm

ahaha stereotypical boy, wonderful. I love that you love yourself some car fixin’ and some pink all ovah the place. It makes you pretty awesome. GIRL you have to give yeast a try, it is so, so, so not intimidating once you conquer it, but you can only do so if you try. You’ll feel incredible once you pull your fluffy loaf out of the oven, let it cool, slice it, and make your first sandwich. Your mind will be blown, it’s a guarantee. And it never, ever gets old. Also, never having to purchase bread again? HUGE.

    Happy weekend!

Three Things I want to do within the next three months:

    1. Move out. If all goes to plan, I will be moving from Alberta to Montreal to attend McGill university. I’m only 18, but I feel like I’ve been waiting for this move since I was 8.

    2. Finally go vegetarian or even vegan. I’ve been wanting to do this for ethical reasons ever since I was 10, but my parents never let me. Now that I’m an adult who will be living on her own, I think I’m ready to make the change.

    3. Find a strength training plan that works for me!

  61. July 16, 2011 2:43 pm

Aw, I loved this post! Three things about me:

    1. I hope to one day have a garden where I can get all my fresh produce out of it!
    2. I hope I can run again someday despite slipping 2 discs in my back and being told I never will be able to again
    3. I need to get some strength training in my life! I’ve never done it and I really want to get into a routine!

  62. July 16, 2011 3:47 pm

Love this. You have great aspirations, and I know that with your philosophy on life and positivity you will accomplish all of them.

Three things I want to do…
    1. Be published. Pursue my dreams with writing.
    2. Help other people. Whether it be by promoting a saner, healthier relationship with food for the mass population, helping people overcome eating disorders, or encouraging young people to excel in academia and make the world a better place…
    3. Love myself and not feel guilty all the time.

  63. July 16, 2011 4:07 pm

I love the 3 things you said you like about yourself. I’m really stubborn too, and I try not to be, but I guess I should just embrace it ;P three things I want to try within the next 3 months are to feel more comfortable with myself, open up and meet new people when I go off to college, hmm… and hopefully get to try a lot more than just 3 things! since leaving home will be so different.

  64. July 16, 2011 4:09 pm

You know what? I may have to do a post on this survey sometime this week. After all, friends share these things!

  68. July 16, 2011 7:21 pm

I adored this post. You always seem to know what to post and how to make it interesting.

By the way, I think you should do a post on what books to read. I love me some reading.

  69. July 17, 2011 9:04 am

What are you reading? Your oatmeal backdrop looks heavenly πŸ™‚

I identified with at least one thing in every one of your categories..

    3 ways I’m like a boy
    1. I love messy foods; ribs, wings, pulled pork…anything that allows me to lick my fingers after!
    2. I can drink beers like a champ.
    3. I’m obsessed with football. Go Cowboys!

  70. July 17, 2011 10:08 am

I love your positivity too πŸ™‚ It always brightens my day!

And I have some of the exact same goals of the future! I would love to be a psychologist, at least that is what I want to do now πŸ™‚

    3 things that scare me
    1-Teeth
2-Golf Carts-had a bad accident in which I fell off one
    3-Heights

I share your first two things that scare you. The last horror movie I saw in theatres left me paranoid and shaken all night long. And I can not throw up. I once passed out on the bathroom tile attempting to hold back my nauseous feelings. My third thing that scares me would have to be losing an extremity. Sounds silly but I don’t know why.

  73. July 18, 2011 8:48 am

Oh I am right there with you on that deep water thing! I love love love to be in water around water but if I don’t know how deep it is it is so scary.

Ok 3 things I am going to go with three things I want to try within the next three months.

    1. Keep eating healthier and start blogging about it. I have been trying to eat cleaner and less processed. I love to cook and am the one that cooks and shops in our house so I need to be aware of what our (my family) bodies need and fill that need.

    2. Menu planning. This sort of goes along with number one and I have been doing this here and there. It is so much easier to make good choices if you have an idea of what you are going to eat each day.

    3. Paint my living room. I have just started decorating the house we bought almost two years ago. I know exactly what I want to do in there so I need to buy the paint and get busy. I know once that happens I will start planning another room and then another and then the whole place will look nice.
