. reasons to smile on a monday .

July 11, 2011

Yipee it’s Monday!! πŸ˜€

Call me crazy, but I actually enjoy Mondays. Maybe it has to do with getting back into my regular routine, or maybe it’s the whole “Monday is like a fresh start” thing, but I never dread the beginning of a new week like the majority of society seems to… especially when it’s a Monday like today – one that gives me so many reasons to crack a smile.

. – . – . – .

Starting the day off RIGHT…

… unlike yesterday. Welcome back chocolate. I’ve missed you dearly…

… and I’ve also made sure to avoid missing you in the near future…

. – . – . – .

Sunshine…

It’s been kind of miserable [read: cloudy and rainy] here for the past week, so it was nice to see a whole 2.2 seconds of sunshine this morning before the clouds rolled back in.

. – . – . – .

Feeding the addiction

Β

I cracked this baby open in the morning, and it’s basically gone now… I would say that I have a problem, except that I don’t see it as one πŸ˜€ The last few slices won’t live to see the light of another day. Guaranteed.

. – . – . – .

Mini anything…

Why is it that mini versions of anything make them that much more enjoyable? Mini spoons. Mini yogurts. This was my first time trying the pomegranate blueberry flavor, and it’s surprisingly good. Tastes like blueberry at first, and then the pomegranate kind of sneaks up on you and makes you go “ooooo“. And 3.25%? Just heavenly.

. – . – . – .

Feeling STRONG and rockin’ a workout…

I’ve decided to take weekends off from exercise by cutting out the run that I usually take on Saturdays, and the extra rest has done wonders for my progress. After two days off, my body feels refreshed and ready to kick some serious ass, so Monday’s workouts always rock, and today was no exception.

. – . – . – .

Fast food…

I always whip up my protein smoothie right before my workout, and leave it in the fridge so that I can enjoy it as soon as I’m done. So refreshing. So nourishing. Loooove. And yes, I just eat it straight out of the Bullet container, because cleaning extra dishes is too much like work.

. – . – . – .

Acting like a girl…

Deer Valley Spice by OPI

Β

I usually prefer buying food over clothes, but lately I’ve been in the mood for some good old fashioned shopping, and seeing as it happens so infrequently, I decided to take advantage of it and hit up the mall this weekend. Today saw me walking into Victoria’s Secret, and walking out with some comfy clothes to wear around the house – 2 pink tees and a gray hoodie.

. – . – . – .

Words of wisdom…

Amen to that.

. – . – . – .

Satisfying a random craving…

I’m not really big on pasta, but I do crave it occasionally, and today was one of those days. Nothing fancy, just some noodles mixed with butter, nutritional yeast, and parmesan cheese, a glob of hummus, a devilled egg, and some brocolli roasted in olive oil and mixed with pasta sauce. Mmmm. Hit the spot.

. – . – . – .

Hearing about what makes other people smile…

Seeing people smile makes me smile… so spill the beans!

What made you happy today?

i have mixed feelings about monday, i’ve gotta say! i guess it just depends on how the weekend went and what i’ve got planned! glad your pudding problem is solved πŸ˜›
things that make me smile…70*, sunny and slightly breezy days with blue skies, running and riding on said days and polite strangers. and iced coffees on grossly humid and hot days!

Happy that so many things made you happy today! Things that me smile- talking on the phone to my close friend, having a nice dinner ( poached eggs over a doubke stuffed baked potato – my favorite) with my family and seeing my flowers grow, sittingon myporch in the sun!

  6. July 11, 2011 5:37 pm

  8. July 11, 2011 5:45 pm

Yogi lemon ginger is my favourite tea πŸ™‚ I have the same perspective on Mondays- think of it as a goal setting fresh canvas to the week! What made me happy today? The amazing Nepalese food I had for lunch with my mama for her birthday!

It’s definitely a smile-worthy Monday. What makes me think so?

    -A productive day at work.
-Going to a job that I love every day.
-A long walk in the sunshine after work.
-Overnight oats not once but TWICE! (Breakfast and dinner)
-The fact that my parents’ kitchen is getting redone this week, which is pretty exciting.
-Coming home to a spotless house (my ‘rents have a cleaning lady, lucky ducks).
-My sister’s first day of her first job was today! It sounds like she had a great time.

    Overall, not too shabby πŸ™‚

I love Mondays too–the weekends make me anxious because I don’t have the usual routine.

I decided to buy Tribe hummus after your raves about it (and because it was on sale at the grocery store). I have to say, it’s probably the best hummus I’ve had (maybe with the exception of Whole Foods, which I just adore). Next I’ll have to get myself some of that pudding πŸ™‚

    • July 11, 2011 7:02 pm

Tribe is definitely my favorite! I bought a different one today, opened it up, and was kind of disappointed 😦 It’s still good, but doesn’t satisfy like Tribe does. And the pudding… yessss it’s SO good.

  12. July 11, 2011 5:52 pm

What made me happy = Slava and I taking a few moments out of dance practice to simple tell each other how lucky we are to be best friends. An obvious fact, but we don’t ever want to take advantage of that πŸ™‚

  13. July 11, 2011 5:53 pm

ahh I love getting back to routine! I found some of that soy pudding in Boston at the whole foods store and was so disappointed that I couldn’t bring it home with me! I wanted to try it. What made me happy today was my workout from the NROWL it makes me feel so strong! I love it!

I got a new bike(yeeee!), I love bikes and cycling- SO much fun zooming around with the wind in my hair!
I baked (and devoured many slices) of your blissful banana bread- delicious and a perfect nut butter vehicle.
Oh, and reading this beautiful post( Duh!)
    Xxx

It’s great you had such an awesome Monday! That’s SUCH a great idea about making the smoothie before hand! It always takes me so long to whip up my post workout smoothie and fruit!

What made me happy today was going to the grocery store to restock on everything. I’ve run low on all my staples!

That I got some nice comments regarding a blog post I recently posted and was beyond terrified to post.

That I still have three days left of a visit from my brother.

That I went for the most gorgeous walk by myself this evening and absolutely loved the feeling of being alone in my thoughts.

YOU make me smile and you also make me want to SHOP tomorrow at vic secret! I need to get some more tees and sweats, as if I do not have enough : p Mike might kill me! lol!

LOVE the nail polish color and those eggs look so good in the last pic! Is that hummus in the middle of them? I love eggs with hummus in the middle, I used to make those a lot!

Love ya girl! Have a great night! xo

I used to dread Mondays — mostly because I was not happy about going to work. But, I’ve made the choice of being positive and enjoying my work (as much as I can) and now I look forward to getting back the routine of the week!

I also make my protein shake before my workout — sometimes I throw it back on the Magic Bullet to whip it back to smoothness, but it is so much easier than making a shake while I’m all sweaty.

  22. July 11, 2011 6:52 pm

You made me happy today! No, really. You’re amazing, girlie πŸ™‚

I’m off to the food store AND the mall tomorrow! How much better can a day get? Seriously?

Loving the picture of the knife in the fruit. HAHA! I took a similar one of Frank the tomato getting cut up for lunch today. I feel like a cannibal! Oopsie.

Oh, man. I don’t see myself eating oatmeal sans pudding anytime soon. SO GOOD!

  23. July 11, 2011 6:56 pm

I love getting back into a routine too! Your PINK shirts look cute :). Baking some muffins today made me happy because they turned out really yummy!

  24. July 11, 2011 7:02 pm

Something that made me smile today… well.. my students make me smile every day..and today was certainly no different πŸ™‚ The innocence of childhood is amazing!

  25. July 11, 2011 7:04 pm

I totally have an unhealthy obsession with miniature things as well…spoons, forks, dishes, pots & pans…the list goes on and on. My friends love to call my family the family of midgets because so much in our kitchen is tiny!

And I completely agree with you about Mondays. It definitely feels like an exciting fresh start. Motivational Mondays I like to call them πŸ™‚

Getting a pedicure and surprising my aunt with an ice cream cake on her birthday made me smile πŸ™‚ and as always so did your post!

  27. July 11, 2011 7:42 pm

I love the idea of making you post workout shake before working out!! That would be so convenient because I’m so hungry after i workout. The other mini thing that makes life so awesome that you can’t forget about is mini desserts. They are the cutest things in the world.

Today I smiled because out of no where I thought of someones facebook status that said “How drunk was mr. krabs when he decided to sleep with a whale?” (spongebob if you didn’t know..) and I shared that with my mom so we started cracking up. It was quite the mother daughter moment.

  28. July 11, 2011 7:43 pm

What made me happy… um, I suppose I can say my unexpected night off! πŸ˜‰ (Not quite that simple, but let’s not go there.)

Do you work? Also, do you ever eat out or let others prepare your foods? I’m still struggling with this and also have major anxiety over starting a job.

    • July 11, 2011 8:50 pm

I do work and eat out, yes. It was a big struggle at first, but like with everything else, you just have to push yourself to do it and see that there’s really nothing to be afraid of. It’s not so bad. Promise πŸ˜€

  32. July 11, 2011 9:02 pm

Yay for a good Monday!! Mine was definitely made much better by workouts, too. Mainly because I dragged Michael to a Body Pump class this afternoon. He’s into lifting heavy and was DEAD after that! haha

  33. July 11, 2011 9:47 pm

UH GREED with every single one! I LOVE Victorias secrettt!

  34. July 11, 2011 9:48 pm

Every time I see soy pudding now I think of your breakfasts. I’ve come thisclose to buying some but I’m cheap and they’re…not really. Next time they’re on sale I just might have to though, your oat bowls just make it way too tempting.

And my smoothie are out of the bullet 95% of the time. I don’t need it in a pretty cup for it to taste good.

I’ve been dropping mucho dough on clothing lately and THAT is making me happy. I usually go pretty long spurts between large shopping sprees but sometimes a little retail therapy does wonders. As does buying fresh melon. Buying and cutting into the first cantaloupe I’ve had in a couple weeks now made ME smile tonight. Yum.

  35. July 11, 2011 9:57 pm

What made me happy today? My breakfast was delicious. it was a cold day, but the sun was out so I was able to relax in the sun and defrost and I got to catch up with alot of my friends.
Days like this make me thankful.

  43. July 12, 2011 5:56 am

Haha I totally know what you mean about preferring to shop for food now – I actually tried to go clothes shopping last week and I got so overwhelmed by the selection in the stores that I ended up coming out empty handed. I feel like I don’t even know HOW to shop for clothes anymore. πŸ˜›

Also I love that you have as big of a Liberte addiction as me. I used to get so jealous of bloggers in the US getting to have Chobani and Oikos Greek yog… but after trying both of those, I’ve discovered I actually prefer Liberte!

What made me smile yesterday… chatting with a customer at work about her trip to Italy, getting a free pint of freshly picked raspberries after my shift, and coming home to my dad’s homemade burgers. πŸ˜€

  44. July 12, 2011 6:06 am

I really enjoy Mondays too. It’s nice to sit and plan out your week and start off fresh!

I want to go out and get a cantaloupe now. They are so delicious. If I buy them I will totally eat it within a day, but I don’t see it as a problem either :]

Those shirts from Victoria’s Secret look sooo comfy! I love how soft their clothes are.

  45. July 12, 2011 7:24 am

Monday… Monday… It didn’t make me smile. But Saturday did. Hooray for swimming circle! πŸ™‚

Clouds are not a bad thing if you have other things to make you smile. And you obviously have. Who wouldn’t smile at the sight of chocolate pudding? πŸ™‚ . But if you need the summer heat so much, take some of ours. I’d really appreciate a day or two with a temperature lower than my own.

  46. July 12, 2011 7:49 am

    I. Love. Mondays. Glad I’m not the only one! Being unschooled, it means that the workweek is starting and I can go to stores and activities! They are all closed on Sundays :(. Although this weeks Monday was rather disappointing as we had a major thunder, lighting, and hell-of-a-rain storm. Super muggy to boot. Had to stay inside most of the day :(. At least I got some unpacking done!

what a great post! I love mini things too, you are right, it just makes things that much more fun to eat…I love that Yogi teas have little ‘words of wisdom’ on them, I used to stick them on my refrigerator. Today I am happy for finished art pieces I was working on and a small walk in the sprinkling rain to pick up some cherries from the grocery store.

  49. July 12, 2011 9:07 am

I love love love Victoria’s Secret, their PINK stuff is so bright and fun!

What made me happy yesterday was getting in some time out in the sun before the rain clouds rolled in. I also had my first ever overnight oats topped with pudding–homemade chocolate black bean pudding–inspired by you. And it was sooooo good that I’m having it again today πŸ˜›
