July 4, 2011

Happy Independence Day to all my lovely American readers!

And happy 4th of July to everyone else – it may not be a holiday, but it’s still a happy day πŸ˜€ And if you haven’t been having the best day, head on over to the comments that people left on my last post and maybe you’ll get some ideas for how to make yourself smile. I know that simply reading about what makes other people happy brought a smile to my face, so hopefully it’ll be able to brighten yours as well.

Something that doesn’tΒ brighten my day, though?

Decision making. Ugh.

(This snack, on the other hand, always brightens my day… banana and Greek yogurt)

Black/white? Left/right? Smooth/chunky? Eep! I just don’t know! I mean, I’ll pick something eventually, but it usually takes me a good amount of time, and if there are too many options (take, clothes/furniture shopping for example)? Sometimes I get so overwhelmed that I just give up and go home empty handed.

Yeah. Working on that one…

I’ve been facing some pretty big life decisions lately (more on this in a future post, when I have more things figured out), and my indecisivenessΒ definitelyΒ plays a huge role there; but it seems to play an even bigger role when it comes to simpler and more mundane decisions…

… like figuring out what I want to have for an afternoon snack 😯

Weetabix soaked in almond milk, fresh blueberries, almond butter

You know… because choosing between a chocolate chip cookie or a muffin will change my life.

Actually, there was a time where choosing what to eat did feel like a matter of life and death, as I had to get it just right because eating a meal that I didn’t enjoy would throw off my entire day.

Thankfully, that’s no longer the case, but I do prefer to enjoy what I eat, which usually isn’t an issue since I just listen to my cravings. The problem is that my cravings start to fail me when I get too hungry, because then everything starts looking good, making it a lot harder to decide.

Β

Cookies? Yogurt mess? Cereal? Fruit?

All of it!… which, unfortunately, only works some of the time.

For all those other times, I need to make a decision, and that’s where having a food blog kind of comes in handy. I won’t lie – there have been times where I’ve glanced through the pictures in my older posts to see if anything would pop out at me, and a lot of the time, it did.

So, I’ve decided to put together a little collection of some of my favorite snacks, both for myself and anyone else who struggles with snack time indecisiveness. Hope you enjoy πŸ˜€

HAHAHA um… I am THE worst decision maker. Ask Slava… he’s had to endure my indecisiveness and he’s a trooper for dealing with it πŸ˜€

I just finished some Theo milk chocolate. HEAVENLY.

  2. July 4, 2011 5:34 pm

    Hi love!!!!

Loving all this food porn! Everything looks amazing, especially the chocolate part!

My last snack was cinnamon cripsy strips and protein dip!

    Have a great Sunday !! xoxo ❀

  3. July 4, 2011 5:34 pm

I’m also super indecisive! It takes me about 2 hours in a bookstore to decide between two books, never mind actual big life decisions. Good luck with making your important decision, I always find pro/con lists help a lot πŸ™‚

I love this collection of snacks! I will definitely be bookmarking this post, I can tell it’s going to be super useful πŸ™‚

  4. July 4, 2011 5:35 pm

Oh my gosh. Your food looks AMAZING!!!! I am trying to grab it through the screen!!! You should see me! I look ridiculous! πŸ™‚ But it is SO worth it for that stuff.

  5. July 4, 2011 5:36 pm

I totally relate, I am the most indecisive person in the universe and EVERY decision from what to eat to which earrings to wear is always the hugest cost-benefit analysis. Sometimes I need to remind myself that the longer I take, the higher the cost πŸ˜‰
Last snack I had: Babaghanouj with leftover bbq’d eggplant/mushrooms/red peppers- was delicious πŸ™‚

  6. July 4, 2011 5:36 pm

I honestly cannot get over your photography skills and how well… amazing all of this looks! I am so indecisive too so can certainly relate!

I’ve gotten much better at making decisions, especially when it comes to meals & snacks by just listening to my body & cravings. It makes it much easier, but I’m the same way you are when I get too hungry, everything sounds good. So not only am I cranky from being hungry, but not being able to decide what I want makes it even worse.

My last snack, which is my go to snack lately was a yogurt/cereal mess .. even if I can’t decide what I want, this mix never fails.

My gaw , this is SUCH a drool worthy post.
I made your no bake cheese cake bites today- the base is utterly delicious<3
Girl your recipes and food combos can do no wrong with me- I'm cookie ball obsessed( I eat a minimum of 2 everyday- and iv got my friend hooked on them). I have tofu protein pudding A LOT. And as someone who is EXTREMELY fussy about their oats- I adore your eggy bananafied oats( have you ever tried soaking your oats for like 3 hours before cooking them?if not- try it!). I was so uncreative in the kitchen before, THANK YOU!
Last snack= Lindt dark choc with sea salt/ heaven( I really want to try Dagoba, but can't get it where I stay:(
    And yes I'm veeery indecisive
    Xxx

You know, coming from one of the most indecisive people on the planet… I think you just made matters way worse, because now I have even MORE choices! πŸ˜‰ I suck at making decisions. It really is quite pathetic.

πŸ˜† By the time I got to the end of this post, I was thinking it might be a little counter-productive… but it was too late to turn back πŸ˜‰

I am absolutely awful when it comes to making decisions about buying anything (because I have a thing about spending money, especially on food). So I tend to eat a lot of the same stuff. But looking at all your marvelous photos makes me want to branch out! When I spend my entire budget on food goodies, I will blame you πŸ˜‰

  13. July 4, 2011 6:13 pm

this is like, the jackpot of amazing looking snacks right here. which is good, because i feel like i’ve been having a hard time deciding what to snack on lately. the usuals are getting boring but i just don’t know what to switch to, so i just open up my fridge and stare for a minuteor meander around the kitchen before finally deciding on something! guh.

  14. July 4, 2011 6:23 pm

I am sooo hungry now! and you gave sooo many yummy snack options…thanks πŸ™‚

  15. July 4, 2011 6:31 pm

    Mmm… Those snacks look divine…
The last snack I had is the same snack I always have – Greek yogurt with 365 peanut butter and raspberry jam. It’s always amazing.

I have so much trouble making decisions… Which college to attend, what food to eat, which dress to buy, whether or not to wear a sweater today, shorts or pants, to workout or not to workout…

Decision making is a constant struggle for me. I put it down to my perfectionism. I am so afraid of making a mistake, ending up with an imperfect outcome, and feeling overwhelmed with regret that I would rather someone take the responsibility out of my hands. That way I won’t blame myself if it turns out badly.

  16. July 4, 2011 6:43 pm

My indecisiveness about meals always peaks whenever we get home from going to the grocery store–the fridge and pantry is overflowing with all sorts of combo possibilities and I just want them all at once haha! I’m normally *okay* about decision making in general, just not with food concoctions πŸ˜‰
Most recent snack was some greek yogurt, fiber one cereal, peanut butter, and protein powder all mashed up–so ugly it was purty! πŸ˜›

  17. July 4, 2011 6:50 pm

OH MY GOSH SO MUCH FOOD PORN!!! That second sweet potato looks like something I want to get to know…

  18. July 4, 2011 6:56 pm

I’m not the best decision maker, but I’m not too bad. I just had some strawberry ice cream with half a graham cracker crumbled on top. Yum!

Oh man, I am possibly THE most indecisive person on the face of the planet. And I have the same problem when it comes to choosing my eats! (Hence, my tendency to get into food ruts, I suppose) I hate getting to that point where I’m just SO ravenous, yet SO indecisive, to the point where I just don’t want ANYthing anymore.

I love your list – for reasons BEYOND the unbelievable food porn it features πŸ˜‰
(I actually have my own bootleg version – basically a list of quick eats on my desktop sidebar to refer to that I come up with when I’m not hungry…which, apparently, is when I have my BEST food-combo ideas… of course ;P)

I still can have a tough time making delicious– I’m better at the small ones now but big ones that I feel will affect me more can be grueling (and a tough hour and half for my poor mother, who I bounce everything off of :s). Last thing I snacked on was a peach and raw almonds… a couple hours before going to the fourth of july BBQ I just came home from. YUM!

  21. July 4, 2011 7:15 pm

Oh wow those all look awesome! I have a hard time making decisions too…it gets really annoying sometimes haha. The last snack I had was raspberry greek yogurt :). Hope you’re having an awesome day!

Ahhh, good thing I was eating pancakes while reading this or else I wouldn’t have made it, your photos are delicious! When I was younger I used to leave the toy store empty handed all the time because I couldn’t chose and was worried if I did chose I was going to get the wrong one, so I felt it was safer to not get anything – I am sort of still like that but hopefully getting better.

  25. July 4, 2011 8:07 pm

This is fabulous! I have the same trouble at meal/snack times…cause I am always craving to many things at once! I am definitely indecisive..so sometimes even listening to my cravings is hard. But all these great suggestions will definitely help!

  26. July 4, 2011 8:09 pm

I too always have to think at least 5 minutes on what I’ll have fore lunch / dinner. I end up just grabbing whatever I have and throw them together.
Speaking of decisions, I hate choosing what to where for school every morning. Back when I went to a private school, it was SO easy to just put on my uniform. Now? Urggh, it’s the thief of my precious morning time.

p.s. Are you also allergic to seeds? Last thing I snacked on…(or that I snack at last once a day): Sunflower-seed butter spoons!!!! ❀

  27. July 4, 2011 8:18 pm

Last snack I had was a strawberry shortcake ice cream bar. The decision was: be like old Tara and get cranky and hungry, or indulge in a little ice cream. Soooo glad I took the new route!
I definitely want to try cottage cheese with nutritional yeast! I bet that would be really good with some beans or on a salad. I never thought of that!

  28. July 4, 2011 8:36 pm

Thanks for making me drool! Oh my goodness. I’m starving right now anyway. Hahah.

The last thing I snacked on was cornbread and dates I didn’t know which one I wanted so I had both.

And thank you for making me crave a Vita Muffin, which is SO not in my budget!!

This post is food porn at its finest! πŸ˜€ You’ve given me tons of new ideas for meals/snacks to try out!

I am THE most indecisive person ever. I seriously think that sometimes it causes real problems for me. Even stupid little decisions take me hours to mull over… and life decisions can take months! πŸ˜› But funnily enough, my decision to switch degrees at university was actually one of the easiest decisions I ever made. The idea just smacked me in the face and a few days later I was meeting with an academic counsellor to make the switch. I think that when a decision is truly right for you, you just KNOW!

Anyways, good luck with your big life decisions! If you need to chat or anything, let me know girly! πŸ™‚

  57. July 5, 2011 12:09 pm

I literally just got up before reading this post to go get a snack! I had no idea what I wanted, too… and am not really satisified with what I got. Oh well–win some, lose some… I’m so bored of my “usual” foods! I’m snacking on some yogurt with blueberries and peanut butter right now. Might have to try your chocolate chip cookie dough protein balls soon…

  58. July 5, 2011 12:32 pm

I hope you sort things out!! Sorry you’re having a tough time. I’m not too indecisive, with the exception of restaurants. I always have 2 things that I want equally so I’ve found that it’s easy to just choose the cheaper option. Unless they’re the same, then ugghhh!!! I just ate a slice of cantaloupe. πŸ™‚

  59. July 5, 2011 1:15 pm

Haha, only you could make a Weetabix look beautiful!! I wish I had your skill :-/
Naah I’m no good at deciding, especially if it’s what to eat! I have too many options, which means I always end up doing the ame, fail-safe thing! Frustrating. I need to meal plan!

Sorry you’ve got tough decisions to make..I sure know how you feel. I think a lot of people our age atm are struggling.

  60. July 5, 2011 2:05 pm

  61. July 5, 2011 2:57 pm

This is such a good idea! I definitely struggle making decisions – it’s terrible. And I’ve definitely been there with food. 62. July 5, 2011 4:12 pm

  64. July 6, 2011 1:03 pm

Last snack I had was cereal! Usually the case with me πŸ˜‰

  65. July 6, 2011 6:55 pm

Lol! You sound exactly like me! I swear one day my indecisiveness is going to get the best of me! I’ve actually been known (when it is within reason) to buy both options when out shopping because I just CAN’T make a decision!

You seriously just made me start drooling all over myself with all those foodie pics! Ahhh!

The last thing I snacked on was a cereal bowl: brown rice cereal, peanut flour, banana, and almond milk. I can’t seem to get enough of the peanut flour in cereal combo!
