. a whole lotta amazing .

June 30, 2011

An amazing bedtime snack…

Resulting in an amazing sleep…

And an amazing award from amazing friends…

Is a whole lot of amazing that left me feeling pretty darn amazing myself.

And now I’ll stop saying amazing. Promise.

The amazing fabulous Kat, Colleen, Tori, Alexandra, and Sarah warmed my heart by presenting me with this award. Love you girls! Thankfully, I don’t have to think up any random facts about myself this time around – just answer some questions about some of my favorite things… so let’s get to it.

. – . – . – .

Favorite cartoon character…

Okay, this one was hard. Seeing as I’m still a big kid at heart, and in love with pretty much anything and everything that reminds me of my childhood, picking one cartoon character was nearly impossible. But, I’m gonna have to go with the [nameless] unicorn from The Last Unicorn because I was completely obsessed with this movie when I was little, and it’s still probably one of my favorites to this day.

Yes… I’m a child of the 80’s.

. – . – . – .

Favorite thing to photograph…

Uhm…

yeah. Actually, I love photography in general, but considering the most common thing I capture on camera is food, I’ll just go with that. No complaints… although looking through my pictures always makes me hungry… which I guess isn’t a bad thing either…

. – . – . – .

Favorite thing to cook…

I wish I had an exotic answer to this one, but honestly… oatmeal… especially in the morning. There’s nothing I love more than starting my day with a cup of my favorite tea and going about making my breakfast. A relaxed morning sets the mood for the rest of my day, so I always make sure to wake up earlier so that I don’t have to feel rushed… even if it means waking up at 5 to be out the door by 7:30.

Can you see my reflection in my cup of tea?

. – .- . – .

Favorite way to exercise…

If you would have asked me a couple of months ago, I probably would have said running, but lately, I’ve been giving up the cardio in favor of more strength training, and I’m becoming a convert. My weight sessions always seem to go by a lot faster than my running sessions, and I love how much stronger they make me feel. Plus, I definitely can’t deny that I’m getting more of the kind of results that I want with lifting than I did with running.

. – . – . – .

Favorite movies…

To be honest, I’m not a big fan of watching movies… at least not so much anymore. There was a time when there was pretty much nothing out in theaters that I hadn’t already seen, and I was always eagerly awaiting Fridays so that I’d have something new to watch. But lately… I just can’t seem to sit through an entire movie… I always get bored after about 15 minutes and want to get up to go do something else. I am a fan of popcorn, though. Oh, and basically everything Disney…

. – . – . – .

Favorite clothing…

Although I do love getting all dolled up every once in a while, you’ll probably see me in something simple and casual more often than not. I’ll either be a walking advertisement for Lululemon, or wearing a simple tee, some jeans/shorts, and funky accessories. Fashion is fun, but makeup is more my thing…

. – . – . – .

Favorite flower…

Any kind that I don’t have to worry about killing 😆 Pretty much any flower can bring a smile to my face, but I especially love lilacs. They smell absolutely beautiful and always remind me of summer.

. – . – . – .

Favorite breakfast…

If you’ve been reading my blog for even a week, you probably know the answer to this one. Oatmeal.

And more specifically, eggy bananafied steel cut oats topped with pudding and almond butter.

. – . – . – .

Book…

No sir. This one I refuse to answer. Reading is such a huge part of who I am, and I can’t imagine getting by without any of the books in my ever expanding collection. I need and love them all.

. – . – . – .

What’s your least favorite food…

Peanuts. Nothing against those lousy legumes or anything, but living with an allergy to one of the most popular and loved foods out there is a bit of a pain in the ass butt. The term “may contain traces of peanuts” has become the bane of my existence, and those innocent looking buggers have made me sick on several occasions and almost landed me in the hospital…

Boo. Hiss.

. – . – . – .

What’s your favorite cartoon character? I love taking a trip down memory lane!

What’s your least favorite food? Even foodies don’t like everything…

Yikes! Scary about peanuts – peanut butter became a fear food of mine since I was led to believe that peanuts were bad and that almonds were the way to go, but now I’ve incorporated peanut products back into my diet. Love them. Sorry that they’re bad in your case though 😦

Favorite cartoon character = I have a few… I know, I’m weird, haha. I like the Pink Panther, Daria (that was my nickname in high school – watch the cartoon and she was like me), Tinkerbell (does she count?); and I used to love Arnold from “Hey Arnold!”

    Food I don’t like = cottage cheese.

  2. June 30, 2011 5:22 pm

I want your movie collection, makeup collection, AND book collection! That stinks you have an allergy to peanuts, I don’t think I would be able to cope!

  3. June 30, 2011 5:25 pm

Favorite cartoon character? I love Gus from the Disney Cinderella movie. He was my favorite as a kid, and still is. Such a cutie.

Least favorite food? It would have to be any kind of pork product. I can’t remember the last time I ate any, and the smell and thought of it just grosses me out. How can bacon still be in?

  4. June 30, 2011 5:38 pm

I would not survive if I was allergic to peanuts!! you are one brave lady 🙂
I love all Disney characters, but I love Tweety Bird, Arthur, and Nala from the Lion King. I actually really dislike cottage and blue cheese. I never eat it!!

  5. June 30, 2011 5:50 pm

Oh no, you’re allergic to peanuts? I am DEEPLY sorry. At least you can enjoy all the other wonderful nuts out there. By the way, I just bought Lou Schuler’s book today and I’m so pumped (pun intended) to begin reading it! I love working out in the weight room, and it’s been making me really happy to see all the lifting love on blogs lately. Say yes to strength! And as for movie-watching…my boyfriend and I are notorious for starting movies and never finishing them. It’s kind of a problem. Glad to see we’re not the only people with stunted attention spans!

  6. June 30, 2011 6:02 pm

Favorite cartoon character? I’m not sure if this counts…but I have a serious soft-spot for the Lion King. lol.
And as for least favorite food, I have always hated zucchini. It’s awful, because it seems like it’s so loved by everyone else! haha

  7. June 30, 2011 6:03 pm

We really are twins I swear 🙂
Unicorns are actually my favorite animal (because yes, they do exist). And I hate the what’s your fav book question!! I usually will say anything by jodi picoult, but I love so many others as well!!

  8. June 30, 2011 6:05 pm

Favorite cartoon–I have to say, Doug!!! I loved that show, ooo or Rocket Power. Old school, I loved Arthur…remember that Anteater? I am not a huge fan of avocado–something about the texture.

I’m obsessed with oatmeal too–nothing is better in the morning than some hot banana but-buttery oats!

  9. June 30, 2011 6:06 pm

I LOVE DISNEY MOVIES TOO!! 😀 The Last Unicorn is one of my favorite movies too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was absolutely crazy about it when I was younger too!

  10. June 30, 2011 6:11 pm

MISSED YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are amazing! Love this award, its fun to do things like this!

I actually do not remember that cartoon?! I loved smurfs, she-ra, Jem, and fraggle rock!

Love your nightime eat, looks really good!

    Missed ya girl!

    xoxo ❤

  11. June 30, 2011 6:52 pm

Aww shucks, you’re fabulous 😀 I couldn’t agree more with your answer to the books, I would NEVER be able to decide in a million years!! So excited you’re still loving strength training, I still think it’s one of the best endorphin rushes ever 🙂

  12. June 30, 2011 7:18 pm

My least favorite food would have to be potatoes…I know crazy huh. I don’t mind french fries but when it comes to baked or mashed, pass. My boyfriend is such a farm boy and loves his meat and potatoes….I prefer fish and veggies lol.
I am glad to see you are getting the results you want form lifting. I had been lifting really hard previously this year and turned over to running. I still have pretty decent abs, but my butt has turned to flab. I love running but I also like the look of weights. I am trying to put them back into my routine slowly.

Ahh, I hate you are allergic to peanuts. Peanut butter is my favorite food. The one food I hate is pork. I ate it all the time as a kid, but def won’t now. My fav character= smurfs.

  14. June 30, 2011 7:25 pm

I hate pickles and raisins! Weird, I know :).

  15. June 30, 2011 7:48 pm

I just made some eggy bananfied oats (inspired by you) for the first time….holy mother. Why the eff have I waited so long to do this?????????? 🙂

  16. June 30, 2011 8:14 pm

I’m not a big fan of movies either! It always makes me feel better when other people say they can’t sit through one. Honestly, unless it’s REALLY good, the idea of staring at a TV screen for two hours is kind of intimidating to me. But a computer screen? No problem.
My least favorite food is meat. I’m not a vegetarian for the standard reasons.. I kind of learned about the moral and ethical positives after I decided to call myself a vegetarian so people would stop attacking me for not liking meat.

  17. June 30, 2011 8:26 pm

I loooove peanuts – I couldn’t live without them. Actually, just the butter. Not the nuts in general.

Your pictures always make me hungry too 😉 You should totally be on food gawker….your pics rock!

I’ve actually never heard of The Last Unicorn! Gonna have to check that out!! Is it Disney?

The only foods I can think of that I don’t like are ravioli, swiss chard, plain zucchini, and steak.

  19. June 30, 2011 8:30 pm

I’ve been meaning to comment on your blog and just tell you how amazing you are, really. I’ve been reading, just haven’t had the time to comment on all of my reads 😉

ANYWHO! I love your opinions, your food, your outlook – you. Thank you for being real.

  20. June 30, 2011 9:07 pm

I love lululemon too! It’s so darn expensive tho :p
My fave cartoon character is Hello Kitty and my least favorite food is any fish or sea food! It’s smelly and just totally unappealing to me.

  23. June 30, 2011 9:46 pm

Congrats on the award!!! 🙂 I didn’t know you were allergic to peanuts!!!! My older brother stops breathing if he eats even a trace of tree nuts, so I kind of know what its like, from third person.

  24. June 30, 2011 10:05 pm

I LOVE “The Last Unicorn”….I used to watch it and cry as a kid!

I love lilacs, they smell like heaven! 🙂 And your collection of books is pretty stellar. I have books lying all over my flat, and I am always on a hunt for some new to my collection 🙂
I love Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh. And Tom & Jerry. And Dexter from The Dexter´s Lab! And probably many others, I love carttons 🙂
Least favorite food? Well, meat I think. When I was a child there were many things I found gross, but as I grew older I grew fond of many of those.

  26. July 1, 2011 12:22 am

Oooh lilacs are so pretty, I’ve never seen them in someone’s house before tho! I wanna find some now!

I need to learn how to shoot food all pretty like you!

  27. July 1, 2011 12:23 am

I was a big fan of The Last Unicorn too. And I watched every anime available although most of them weren’t for children at all. Most of all I loved filmed Czech traditional fairytales but they are not even in the cartoon category obviously 🙂 .

I’m a pretty picky eater but the first thing that popped out when I thought of something I hate was chicken skin. Blah!

  28. July 1, 2011 2:20 am

Im a huge fan of Disney too. Its hard to pick a favorit, but i think Ill have to go for Belle from Beauty and The Beast! I always wanted to be her, and I was so in love with the Beast when I was younger 😛
And less favorit food must be Mayonnaise 😦 I just cant stand it. I used to love sour cream, because its fresh. But mayonnaise is just.. ugh, horrible! 🙂

  29. July 1, 2011 2:29 am

It definitely goes without saying, but you are a truly talented photographer! Your pictures compliment your voice beautifully…love love love.

I am sad to say that I was deprived of The Last Unicorn during childhood. I’m going to go search for an episode once I submit this comment. However, from the looks of the picture, I have no doubt that I too would have been obsessed with the nameless unicorn!

My favorite cartoon characters of all time: Strawberry Shortcake, Rainbow Bright, Tweety Bird, Roadrunner and Michelangelo. 🙂

Least favorite food: dried apricots!! I have a very strong aversion to them!

    • July 1, 2011 7:09 am

!! I forgot about TMNT! I used to be so obsessed with them as a little kid. Leonardo was my favorite, and I would always “be” him when me and my friends played ninjas. Good times 😀

  30. July 1, 2011 2:56 am

Awesome food porn in this post! Fave cartoon character has to be Dumbo (I can bearly even think about that movie without welling up!) and least fave food is celeriac, its gross!

  31. July 1, 2011 3:59 am

Wowww the picture of your reflection in the tea is so cool haha! All of your photography is simply stunning – as ALWAYS, making me jealous once again! 🙂
Is it really bad that I’ve never heard of The Last Unicorn?! My bad, I will have to YouTube it 😉 My favorite cartoon character, gah this is so hard – I loved so many Disney movies especially the princessy ones and Lion King..but now that I think about it, Garfield makes me laugh because he’s so lazy, sarcastic and I want his life haha!
My least favorite food would be meat and fish. I’m like Tara – I’m actually not vegetarian because of the ethical reasons so much, but more because I simply can’t stand the taste! I think it’s from when I was little, one time I was trying to chew pork or something and I couldn’t swallow it and I ended up choking…And don’t get me started on fish and seafood..just the smell makes me gag!

    • July 1, 2011 7:12 am

I’ve always wanted to be able to slurp spaghetti like Garfield 😆 And I’ve only eaten fish like once in my life, and it made me siiiiiick. I donno how people can eat something that smells so bad… gives me the heebie jeebies.

  32. July 1, 2011 5:57 am

favorite food: peanut butter ( sorry) typical? YES haha

I loveeee your photography what kind of camera do you use?

  33. July 1, 2011 6:31 am

    Your pics are so….amazing! haha

  34. July 1, 2011 6:38 am

That’s such a good one! How could I forget about Unicorn? I must have seen that movie a bazillion-gazillion times. Such a classic!

  35. July 1, 2011 6:45 am

Im also gravitating more towards weight training lately! I love how strong it makes me feel and how quick I’m seeing results!

  36. July 1, 2011 7:15 am

I’m not much of a movie person either. I can’t stand to go watch a movie at the theaters. I’m okay with watching them at home cause I can stop and go to the bathroom and get something to eat. I’ve also been lifting more weights and I’m loving it! Except for the fact that getting up off of the toilet seat is a challenge.
My least favorite food is olives. gross

  37. July 1, 2011 7:23 am

Sadly I don’t like almond butter or Greek yogurt. I know I know…I tried so hard…but the consistency of them both is a deal breaker for me. Glad to see you’re loving lifting! Usually I feel like cross training is a necessary evil…but I LOVE my lift days. I know just what you mean about really seeing results with strength training.

  38. July 1, 2011 8:02 am

I don’t know that I have a favorite cartoon character NOW, but I did go through a phase where I was quite literally obsessed with Tweety Bird…

And least favorite food? There are quite a few. 😉 (Fish, tomatoes, avocado… I’ll stop now.)

    ❤ ❤

  39. July 1, 2011 9:11 am

I hate black licorice. It is so disgusting to me…keep it away and don’t let it touch anything I plan on eating. I guess there are worse things I can hate (because let’s be honest, how often do you really eat licorice?!), but that’s the one I absolutely cannot stand!

    • July 1, 2011 10:20 am

Haha I can’t stand black licorice either, but it’s not really one of those things I come across often, whereas peanuts are everywhere 😡

  40. July 1, 2011 9:12 am

You know, until you mentioned your peanut allergy in a post a couple weeks ago I never even noticed you didn’t eat peanut butter. At least you have almond butter, right? I had a roommate with a peanut allergy and he refused to even try any other nut butters. I cannot remember the last time I saw a movie in theaters!

Is it bad that I can think of a lot more cartoon characters I hated then that I loved? Least favorite food? TACOS!

  41. July 1, 2011 9:21 am

I just found your blog and I love it! (:

  42. July 1, 2011 10:04 am

Least fave food: Celery, green bell peppers, anything with liver/weird animal parts, cottage cheese (the texture IRKS me), and anything extremely bland.

  43. July 1, 2011 10:42 am

YAY for strength training!! I always feel so empowered after a good lifting sesh…a kind of feeling i never felt with cardio. love it!!!

  44. July 1, 2011 11:09 am

like you, i TOTALLY dont have the attention span for a movie anymore. id like to watch more movies though, so im WORKIN ON IT! haha

  45. July 1, 2011 11:15 am

Hey there! Awesome blog! All the photos here look AMAZING 😀 !

  46. July 1, 2011 11:45 am

congrats on the award! And you are certainly quite the food photographer 😉

  47. July 1, 2011 12:18 pm

Congrats on your award! You deserve it, your pics always make me want to jump through my screen and “steal” your oats haha

  48. July 2, 2011 12:13 pm

Loved this post! And your photos are so beautiful!

Favorite Cartoon: I can’t come up with a specific one right now, but I have some fond memories of watching sonic the hedgehog on Saturday mornings with my brother.

I’m not really a fan of asparagus. I’ll eat it, but I don’t enjoy it.
Sorry to hear about your peanut allergy! 😦

  49. July 6, 2011 2:07 pm

OK I scrolled through some of your older posts and I love *LOVE*LOVE*LOVE* that you mentioned The Last Unicorn. My sisters and I watched that movie all the time when we were younger.
