. WIAW… round four .

June 1, 2011

Hi beautiful people! πŸ˜€ Can you believe it’s already June? Eeeee. Love it! And what better way to bring in a beautiful (and hopefully sunnier) new month than with a delicious round ofΒ WIAW.

I started off the first day of June the same way I start off any other day… with tea and breakfast prep.

Eggy banana steel cut oats with blueberries, coconut butter, and vanilla pudding.

Did you know that the first of June also happens to be International Children’s Day? I don’t think it’s that commonly celebrated over here in North America, but because my parents were born and raised in Europe, and grew up celebrating it themselves, they always get me a little something special…

This year it was a little panda charm for my Pandora bracelet *squeak*.

Amanda Panda. Get it? πŸ˜‰Β No, I will never grow up… nor will I ever get tired of these…

Cookie Dough & Killer Strawberries

What? You don’t use empty jam container lids as plates? Pssh. Get with the times! Or… don’t; I was just too lazy to go rummaging through the cupboards, so I grabbed the first thing I saw. Hey, whatever works. And speaking of which… what kind of magic are they working to pump out strawberries that grow as big as my face? I should probably be at least a tiny bit concerned, but they’re just too darned tasty.

And you know what else is tasty? Breakfast… which is why I decided to have it again when lunch time rolled around. To get my veggies in, I figured I’d throw a salad beast in there too, just for good measure.

Salad beast; vanilla tofu protein smoothie; Greek yogurt with puffs, Sunshine, and trail mix.

Confession: I haven’t eaten a typical lunch-type lunch in… ohhhhh… 5 days or so? I just haven’t been craving the savory stuff like I normally do, so why try and force it? To wind up cranky and unsatisfied?

In the past, I adhered to the wonky belief that only breakfast and snacks were “allowed” to be sweet, so I’d force myself to eat savory lunches and dinners even if I wasn’t feeling them. No bueno. Unhappy tummy = unhappy Amanda…Β much more satisfying to go with what your gut is telling you (oh and by the way, I really don’t care much for the word gut), and although lunch managed to silence my talkative gut for a little while, it wasn’t long before it started speaking up again…

… and again…

Quite the chatterbox, my gut is.

Crazy afternoon hunger. It’s hard to handle sometimes – especially when it hits you in the middle of a run. What. the. hell? How is it possible to get hungry so quickly when I literallyΒ justΒ ate before I walked out the door? Stomach. Seriously. Knock it off. I wouldΒ like to enjoy activities other than eating. Thanks.

That’t not to say that I don’t enjoy eating, because I very much do, especially when breakfast is involved…

Pumpkin bake with banana, cream cheese, and roasted almond butter.

Yes, that makes today a triple breakfast day. Don’t say it. Just… don’t say it. Breakfast overload, I know. Watch, tomorrow I’m gonna end up having something very un-breakfast-like for breakfast – like a tofu stir fry or something. Naaaaaahh. Never gonna happen.

And now if you’ll excuse me, loves, I’m off to test the strength of my nerves watch game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals, which my Canucks will hopefullyΒ be winning (sorry Jess, I still love you!).

. – . – . – .

Have you been craving more sweet or savory foods lately?

Has your appetite been out of control like mine?

It always makes me really anxious when I get hungry in between meals. I have a hard time believing that my body knows when it needs more fuel. Seeing that you aren’t afraid to refuel frequently makes me feel more “normal” and lessens the anxiety, so thanks!

Oh, and those strawberries are ridiculously huge! I hope they were as delicious as they looked!

    • June 1, 2011 6:41 pm

It used to make me really anxious too, but it was TORTURE to force myself to wait until my next meal time, so I took the chance to eat between meals and felt SO much better. It’s scary at first, but trust your body… it won’t lead you astray.

  2. June 1, 2011 5:25 pm

My appetite is increasing more and more everyday. I notice I’m actually hungry every 2.5-3 hours which is so different for me! and I could seriously eat breakfast at every meal.. I don’t know why I force myself to eat savory foods for lunch and dinner…. I may need to fix that tomorrow and just listen to what I REALLY want
I’m a serious sweet foods addict.

  3. June 1, 2011 5:26 pm

    Beautiful charm bracelet!

There is NO such thing as breakfast overload, if you ask me πŸ™‚

  4. June 1, 2011 5:29 pm

Lol love that you had breakfast 3 times. I bet my parents would flip if I did that. And omg that panda charm is so cute.. actually so is your entire bracelet!

  5. June 1, 2011 5:32 pm

Amanda panda that is so cute! And the bracelet is so pretty. Who needs to grow up anyways?
Nice job on the triple breakfasts πŸ™‚ If I crave sweets, then you bet I will be having sweets for lunch /dinner/snacks whatever.
I’m actually about to go make dinner and I’m craving french toast so french toast it is!

P.s you got me craving cream cheese with your cream cheese and jam combo so I went and bought some at my health foodie store. Really feeling excited to try it.
Saying “screw what everyone else thinks i’m going to eat what I want” makes me feel pretty rebellious, it’s awesome πŸ˜‰ haha.

  6. June 1, 2011 5:33 pm

I am the only oddball out there who can only eat breakfast-y food at breakfast time. My mom asked me if I wanted eggs for dinner and I just about flipped… not happening!!

  7. June 1, 2011 5:37 pm

Savory foods for sure! My appetite has been crazy though- I feel like I get famished every two hours..just gotta go with it I guess πŸ™‚

  8. June 1, 2011 5:39 pm

tah-riple breakfast!? I like the way you think… and eat =) I just like ya! ❀ Love your new amanda panda charm dahling! ❀ Happy WIAW and happy June! yay!

  9. June 1, 2011 5:40 pm

I think I have the ramekin you used for breakfast!! I won it from Bites and Bliss. I’ve still got that “breakfast and snack sweet” rule. One big wonderful challenge for me would be to have oats or cereal for dinner. I need to break out of this rut because sometimes there isn’t anything I’d rather have. That said, I enjoy a salad beast any day πŸ™‚
and yes! my appetite has been way weird lately. I think it is because I’m recovering and choosing to eat more. Would that be a metabolism thing? Whatever hungry beast is in my stomach, I’m working on feeding it!

I’m so with you on the constant hunger thing! My tummy has been uber hangryy lately. Maybe it’s the hot weather.
As for breakfast foods, I tend to eat backwards. I like savory stuff for breakfast and sometimes sweet oats or vegan french toast or pancakes with tofu bacon for dinner!

Ha, I totally use lids as plates too! Washing dishes is for suckas.
    I have a RAGING appetite.
I am LOVING your protein cookie dough balls so much- I’m on my 6th batch! Iv mixed up the type of nut and flavour of protein powder a few times too. I you have caused an addiction.
As per usual all your food looks absolutely drool worthy – come cook for me!

I could eat breakfast for every meal, every single day & be completely satisfied lately. And my appetite has been raging as well, so I’ve tried to mix in some other types of meals to satisfy the hunger & it seems to be working, but that doesn’t mean I’ll be giving up my breakfast food obsession any time soon.

  13. June 1, 2011 6:19 pm

Wow I thought you only had 2 breakfasts today, not 3!!! I am way jealous of your plethora of yumminess. This post seriously has got me drooling. Love the pumpkin pie bake and the steel cut oats with vanilla pudding. Your Pandora is adorable!! I’m hooked, I love mine. One of my best friend’s is named Amanda too and we call her Amanda Panda all the time. We got her the panda charm too πŸ˜‰ Too cute!

  14. June 1, 2011 6:21 pm

LOVE the panda charm! How sweet! I have seen those pandora bracelets! I think they are so cool! Its fun to collect charms for them!

LOVE the sweets for every meal! I actually crave sweets all day sometimes too! I will do eggs with maple syrup , pancakes for lunch, or pb puffins cereal ( which I need asap! ) but you catch my drift, when Im craving sweet , I roll with it!

Love ya girl! Have a great night! xoxo

  15. June 1, 2011 6:27 pm

I’m kookoo bananas for your tea mug! It’s adorable πŸ™‚ all of your eats look fantastic!

  16. June 1, 2011 6:35 pm

Laaaaaaahuv it!! A perfect breakfast trifecta! Breakfast will ALWAYS be my favorite meal of the day…I just don’t understand how some people can say they don’t eat it! Blasphemy!

Your bracelet is adorable! Love all the little charms!

Your jar lid plate is SO classy…especially since I wouldn’t even think to grab anything to set it on…from hand, to mouth! Ask me no questions and I’ll tell you no lies! πŸ˜‰

I’ve been craving sweet like CRAZY lately! I don’t usually have a huge sweet tooth, but I can already sense my tolerance going up a bit! Eek!

  17. June 1, 2011 6:45 pm

That is so cute about the National Children’s Day! We don’t celebrate it over here, but we definitely should. I’ll have to remember this somehow for whenever I have kids..cause that’s just too cute. πŸ™‚

My appetite has been out of control, too!! I recently upped my calories and my body’s responded to it by being hungry all.the.time.

    • June 1, 2011 7:09 pm

Isn’t that just the weirdest thing!? It’s like you think eating more will decrease your hunger, but it actually has the opposite effect! Strange things, our bodies…

  18. June 1, 2011 6:54 pm

I love how you celebrate Children’s Day – what a great holiday and such a cute charm!
I too have noticed my hunger to be out of control these past few days – I’ve been snacking on lots of sweets – lots of smoothies, fruit, cereal – I think it’s the change of weather – the weather has been so warm! I’m not complaining though – I just love summer!
How do you like twitter? I still have to join!
    πŸ™‚ aimee

  19. June 1, 2011 6:55 pm

breakfast 3 times a day? my dream.
thanks for solving my meal plan for tomorrow.

  20. June 1, 2011 7:32 pm

Love your eats – strawberries are insane right now. I ❀ them! My appetite has been kind of supressed with now- I'm not sure why!

  21. June 1, 2011 8:08 pm

I know I’m probably repeating the other comments above – but my appetite has been going out of control recently. To be honest, it scares me because it reminds me of my past “sad” days (if you get what I mean.) I don’t restrict myself or anything…but I don’t know what to do when I get starving-hungry at 12:00am midnight. I actually ended up having a snack literally in the middle of the night few days ago. Have you experienced anything like this? (p.s. my calorie intake is typically >2500)

  22. June 1, 2011 8:29 pm

All of your breakfasty items make me so happy! It’s weird because I’m the opposite- normally I crave sweet but lately I’ve been wanting salty. Go figure!! I am making your pumpkin bake soon btw πŸ™‚
And as you know my appetite was insaaane for awhile now but it’s calmed down slightly. I find I can go longer between meals which is nice! For me the key is to eat a little more than I think I need… not to feel stuffed, just to feel FULLY satisfied. It’s working out great so far!

  23. June 1, 2011 8:33 pm

Your sweets look soooo delicious! I’m into sweets (ie berries and dairy) for lunch most days. It’s not that I don’t like savory, but it just easier for me to pack the breakfast-type lunches for work. I sometimes feel like I could live off cottage cheese, oatmeal, and fruit…

Lately, I’ve been hungry more than usual because of my high volume training the past 2 weeks. I feel like all I do is train and eat.

  24. June 1, 2011 8:46 pm

My cravings go from sweet to savoury and back and forth. But latley im into the sweet stuff,
    why not, right?
    CUTE panda charm. πŸ™‚

Normally the heat kills my appetite, but it’s been raging lately too. I always crave sweets, but I tend to crave them even more it seems when I start out my day with something sweet…which is all the time. I rarely wake up wanting scrambled eggs or an omelet. Bring on the chocolate oats with pb and peanut butter puffin cereal loaded with fruit!

  26. June 1, 2011 9:12 pm

‘grats to you and your boys. we’ll getcha soon! just have to start biting fingers. didn’t know that was how you guys played up there πŸ˜‰
i think there was a good solid week (okay…probably longer…) where I’d have my cereal bowls for breakfast and then sweet waffles for lunch because I hated having to decide between the two! I’d try and encourage myself to break out of the rut but nothing else was even a little bit appealing so I just rolled with it πŸ˜‰
    Run today?! That sounds promising!

  27. June 1, 2011 10:00 pm

I love breakfast so much so why don’t I just give in and eat it more than once in a day? Good question, self. Good question. I want to swim in that coconut butter. Mine never gets that melty 😦 I was suddenly hungry during my run today too!! How bothersome, but did you know it was Nat’l Running Day? I ran a race on Memorial Day and seriously my hunger would not end. Obviously I listened to my bod and continued to feed it. Duh.

P.S. I kinda think it’s funny to see you and Jess root on opposing hockey teams πŸ˜›

  28. June 1, 2011 10:39 pm

yummmmm your pumpkin rocks! looks soo good!! i get hungry at weird times sometimes- and i will just listen! they are random times too!

  29. June 1, 2011 11:01 pm

amanda, you are a girl after my own heart – 3 breakfasts in a day!? you are a star! love it. ive been craving salty most of the time these days – but for breakfast i always want sweet!!! it’s weird though that i’ve been doing more salty than sweet lately though in general – ive even been having savory snacks which is totally unheard of for me! (though this has meant that ive gotten to try new snacks like roasted plantain chips… i was totally missing out!)

MmMm, all those breakfastes looks delicious! And if you feel breakfast for dinner, why not eat it!? Im so happy that you actually allow yourself that, what a freedom to have πŸ™‚
And you bracelet is so beautiful!

  32. June 2, 2011 12:50 am

Haha, love it! Breakfast foods are my favourite. Sometimes I crave more salty foods, other times sweet ones. Recently I’ve been consuming waaay too much chocolate etc. and it made my sweet cravings out of control, so I’m trying to cut back on that a little.

  33. June 2, 2011 1:17 am

my appetite is WEIRD.. it always gets weird when im on my period, which would explain it.. but yeah i crave sweet things but then again i dont crave anything! either way.. you EAT such delicious food!

Triple breakfast day sounds like the best day possible :))
That panda charm is soo cute, glad your parents remembered the ChildrenΒ΄s day!! πŸ™‚
Well, my apetite is lately also a bit out of control. I feel like I am hungry the minute right after I finish my breakfast/lunch/dinner/whatever… I am always looking around for something more to eat:)

  35. June 2, 2011 4:39 am

Okay, I’m sorry, I can’t take this anymore. PLEASE CAN I COME TO YOUR HOUSE?!
Seriously, just everything you eat, I just want in my tummy right now. I’ll pay for you to be my personal chef?!
I have such a sweet tooth that if I let it take control, I would live on breakfasty sweet foods. But I actually force myself to have a sweet breakfast and two savoury meals and then all my snacks can be sweet because otherwise I think I would get a sweet overload and I would never have any ‘normal’ meals!
The panda charm is absolutely adorable. And what a lovely day to celebrate – I’ve never heard of it despite living in Europe. I had always said to my parents growing up that there should be a ‘kid’s day’ because there is a Father’s Day and Mother’s Day and I wanted an extra excuse for presents haha! They’d always respond by saying ‘Every day is kid’s day – you get enough treats!’ haha! Now I’m going to tell them there is such a thing muhaha!
What is in that bowl of chocolatey goodness?! It looks amazing!!
My appetite has been totally out of control now that I’m focusing more on my health by increasing my calories and reducing my exercise, it’s crazy! I’m not bothered by it though, I’m trying to gain weight and it’s another excuse for me to eat more sweet things YAY πŸ™‚

    • June 2, 2011 7:12 am

Haha! You can come over for breakfast (or lunch/dinner) any time πŸ˜€ I used to think that I’d eat nothing but sweet things if I “let myself go”, but it never really happened! If I ate what I wanted, and it was too many sweet things, then I’d def. experience the sweet overload and start craving more savory stuff.

And the chocolatey bowl of goodness is some Greek yogurt mixed with coconut milk, a chocolate muffin, strawberries, and chocolate pudding.

      • June 2, 2011 10:20 am

The panda charm is so cute! I have a pandora bracelet too and I love when my parents give me a charm for a special occasion. They never do on international children’s day though haha!

Your food pictures all look absolutely amazing!

  38. June 2, 2011 6:27 am

Breakfast is the best meal of the eating it for all 3 meals is perfectly okay in my book! πŸ™‚

I have been alot more hungry as well, and as my recent posts state “Stuck in the almond butter jar”.

  39. June 2, 2011 6:34 am

I have got to learn to trust and listen to my body like you do! I feel like I am constantly hungry or at least fearing being hungry and therefore always thinking about food. What a great, vicious cycle 😦
On a more positive note, I love your Pandora bracelet! I received one when I was 16 and have been filling it up with new charms ever since. It is probably one of my most favorite and special items that I own πŸ™‚

    • June 2, 2011 2:50 pm

When I wasn’t eating enough, I was CONSTANTLY thinking about food, too. I couldn’t do anything else because I wasn’t able to focus on anything besides “when will it be time to eat”. I still get that way sometimes, but it’s a lot better now πŸ˜€

  40. June 2, 2011 7:16 am

First, that coffee mug in the first pic is AMAZING. I want it.
My hubby bought me a pandora bracelet last Christmas πŸ™‚ He filled it with a bunch of charms, but I am really looking forward to adding and mixing it up!! Pandas are my FAVORITE zoo animal, so I will have to get one added to my bracelet. Twinsies? πŸ˜‰

  41. June 2, 2011 7:34 am

honestly, thinking of some of the food “rules” I used to have for myself (and some that I still do. meh) are almost laughable to me. Can you believe that there was one point in my life when I only allowed myself 1 Tbsp of nut butter per day? Ludicrous.

p.s. I just bought the most ridiculous container of strawberries and I’m pretty sure they were all injected with steroids. I like it.. I like it a lot.

  42. June 2, 2011 8:31 am

    Happy belated children’s day! I think I will celebrate it even when I turn 50 πŸ˜› .

Hmmm… all the huge strawberries I’ve tried tasted like rubber. You are probably luckier than me πŸ™‚ . I just focused on the tiny ones which appear to be very, very sweet. And I eat enough bananas to keep the economics of a small country running.

I crave a sweet lunch from time to time but sweet dinners are my specialty. There is nothing more natural than eating some kind of sweet bread with yogurt for dinner or a big bowl of “overday” oats or yet another banana sandwich because banana sandwiches never go out of fashion. When I want something sweet, I just want something sweet. I can eat my weight in savory food and I still won’t be satisfied until I get my sugar. I am already dreaming of tomorrow’s sweet yogurt-y goodness and I hope the morning comes sooner πŸ™‚ .

Raging appetite? Checked. And it causes more mental discomfort than physical.

  43. June 2, 2011 9:53 am

I LOVE breakfast for other meals, and now that it is summer and I have to pack less food, I will be enjoying it a lot more!
My appetite seems to work like clockwork, and I ALWAYS basically honor my appetite and hunger cues, but on occasions when my appetite seems overactive, I still need to work on eating MORE!

  44. June 2, 2011 10:59 am

It depends on the day but I ALWAYS crave sweet for breakfast – and the rest of the day it differs. My snacks are 80 % sweet, but my lunches and dinners are pretty savory.

I’ve had a CRAZY appetite for the past week or so, but it’s been actually rather tame these past few days.

  45. June 2, 2011 12:29 pm

Happy belated Children’s Day! I think it’s so sweet that your parents always get you “a little something” for it… πŸ™‚

I’m definitely a sweet breakfast / savory dinner person… lunch can go either way. I have no idea why I feel that way, but hey, I’ll just go with it…

    ❀ ❀

  46. June 2, 2011 2:38 pm

I usuallu have savoury meals and save my snacks as my sweets….I think it is definitely time for me to change that up!

    P.S. I also hate the word “gut”..ewww!

  47. June 2, 2011 2:46 pm
