. on the bright side… .

May 23, 2011

Ello my wonderfully insightful boos. Loved reading all your comments on my last post – very smart cookies, you are. Mmm… cookies. Err. What? Sorry… got distracted for a moment there. Ahem.

Happy Victoria Day weekend to my fellow Canadians, and happy Monday to everyone else 😀 Is the term “happy Monday” a paradoxical one? Is there anyone else out there who, like me, actually enjoys the arrival of Monday? A two day break from routine is more than enough down time for me, and I usually welcome Mondays with open arms. Although, I’d prefer if they weren’t these kind of Mondays…

Dull, rainy, and blah.

Nothing like rain and gray skies on a long weekend, eh? (yes, I’m one of those Canadians that says “eh?”). But let’s look on the bright side. A dreary day makes a hot breakfast taste that much better…

Baked oatmeal with apple, raisins, and coconut butter.

It also presents one with the perfect opportunity to consume far too many cups of tea while curled up on the couch with a blanket and a book.

And when the couch begins to show the warning signs of becoming permanently indented? Getting dolled up for an afternoon coffee date with a friend becomes a viable option…

Jacket: Guess, Top: H&M, Jeans: Guess, Shoes: I forget…, Head: Missing

… but not before attending to hunger and nails… Priorities, people.

Cookie Dough & NYX nail polish in Hot Pink

And if all else fails, a spring themed dinner of coconut milk rice with sweet corn, roasted asparagus seasoned with olive oil and garlic, and devilled eggs can help remind you that springtime showers are needed to feed the flowers, and that flowers make the world an even more beautiful place.

So the next time it starts to rain on your parade, remember that you can find sunshine on even the dreariest of days if you just look on the bright side, so I highly recommend that you do 😀

. – . – . – .

Do you like Mondays?

Do I need to get a Twitter account?

Will you forgive me for tonight’s less-than-stellar post if I tell you that my brain feels somewhat fried after the last two?

Loving the baked oatmeal yum! I love baked oats, but I never make them! I’m a cold overnight oat girl I suppose ; )

Love the coffee date outfit! Your so cute! Love the nail color too!! Pink is the best!!

    Hope your night is fabulous!!!

    Xoxo ❤

  2. May 23, 2011 6:21 pm

LOVE your outfit! And please don’t get Twitter – I don’t have one… stay with me in the “non-Twitter” crowd! 😀

    Hope things get better!

  3. May 23, 2011 6:35 pm

I like Mondays but probably because it’s my day off 🙂

AND YES PLEASE GET A TWITTER!!

  4. May 23, 2011 6:37 pm

Mmm such a simple yet delightful looking meal 🙂
Since I’m currently unemployed and newly graduated, Mondays are just like any other day to me- however I like to think of them as a blank slate, a new start to the week where I can set the tone however I choose
And yes, you should get a Twitter! I find out about so many deals at restaurants/shops/etc through it, not to mention there is a lot of fun reading on there!

    • May 23, 2011 7:27 pm

^^ This is me exactly. Monday’s don’t have any meaning since school finished! But they will soon, because I’ve got to get a job before I go out of my mind with boredom…

  5. May 23, 2011 6:38 pm

The asparagus and the baked oatmeal look SO scrum-diddly-umptious! 😛 Don’t you just love fresh green veggies? The bright colors seem to make them even more delicious!
Ehh I don’t have a twitter, I could never really get into it. I always thought it was kinda bizarre and pointless haha

Hope the rest of your Monday goes well! 🙂

  6. May 23, 2011 6:40 pm

I think this post was lovely, as usual, but even if it wasn’t you would totally get a pass after the last two posts. I was actually excited for it to be the work week again. Okay, it’s the work week for everyone with a job at least, myself NOT included. Tea and rainy days just go together, don’t they?

Your dinner is looking beautiful and springy and I’m loving it 🙂

  7. May 23, 2011 6:44 pm

I actually really like Mondays. I like my free time, but I like having a schedule too..and having classes gives me a schedule to base the rest of my day around. Of course, by Tuesday I’m ready for the weekend again. 😉

And no, you don’t *need* a Twitter account, but if you get one..I’ll follow!

  9. May 23, 2011 6:52 pm

That baked oatmeal looks so yummy, love the coconut butter on top. I have a jar at home and now I know what to use it on 😉

Cute nail polish btw, I love pink, especially for the fun Summer months. And yes you do need to get a twitter account. I was looking for you and realized you didn’t have one. Boo 😦

  10. May 23, 2011 6:54 pm

Love your nail polish, that color is so pretty. Wish we had a rainy day… it’s way to hot here! And I’m looking forward to curling up with a book and tea in the summer… soon soon!

  11. May 23, 2011 6:55 pm

I love that you say “eh” I do too and I don’t even live in Canada, it’s a fabulous saying 🙂
This is a great post still, I love seeing your daily eats, and that is a lovely color for nail polish!

  12. May 23, 2011 7:04 pm

YES! Get twitter so we can chat!! ❤

  13. May 23, 2011 7:08 pm

    You look absolutely gorgeous!

  14. May 23, 2011 7:21 pm

Your dinner looks so purty! And books + tea + couch = happiness. YES to a twitter! 🙂

  15. May 23, 2011 7:27 pm

Yesss, twitter! I don’t rely on mine/use it as much as I should, but it’s nice to send out little random thoughts sometimes, or middle-of-the-day communication :]
Your dinner looks so good. I’ve been loving sweet corn lately…it just seems so summer-like to me, especially when we’re getting tons of rain, too :[ That photo freaks me out, though…it looks like your glass and fork are floating…is it on a clear table or something? haha, I’ve been trying to figure this out for the past five minutes… (freaks me out not in a good way; i love the geometry and colors in it I just cannot figure out the floating thing, lol)

  16. May 23, 2011 7:32 pm

Me and mondays have an odd relationship..
I like them if I have a good sunday the day before! (which lately I have been so Woop!)

YES YES YES you need to get a twitter. It’s loads of fun 😉

  17. May 23, 2011 7:42 pm

I’ll be honest. I DO NOT get twitter. Facebook? Yes. Twitter? No.
I have an account and it is dormant. I think it is a generational thing (I am in my 30s) as none of my friends embrace twitter either.
Or the fact that I don’t access the internet from my phone.

Let us know how you fare in twitter-twat ville.
I’m sorry I know it sounds hater-ific but I really just love using the term. I blame Kathy Griffin.

  18. May 23, 2011 7:55 pm

HOLY CRAP GIRLIE those are some MAY-JAH shoes!! I don’t mind Mondays, it’s Tuesdays that I’m not a fan of. They are nothing days. BOO TUESDAYS!

YES, get a Twitter account. Pretty please?!

We say “eh” in New Zealand too except we put a different kind of emphasis on it. My Dad is from England and says “eh” all the time now. It’s quite funny 😛

    xxx

  19. May 23, 2011 8:17 pm

I’m on the ‘eh’ bandwagon. I say it plenty, no shame!
Love the outfit. A friend coffee date is the perfect excuse for dolling up. I need more excuses to doll up and get out of the house with this whole summer unemployment thing I’ve also got going on right now… not so awesome. The days just meld into one another! Therefore Mondays are kind of neutral to me right now since every week is a perma weekend. Though I DO look at Mondays as a fresh start and find that a new week feels like it’s loaded with more new possibilities so at the same time, Mondays do have a bit of an optimisticness around them right now.

    I say YES to Twitter!

  20. May 23, 2011 8:26 pm

My long weekend’s about to end! Booh!!!
p.s. I love your “eh” comment. I’m not native here, so I don’t use it, but it reminded of my friend who transferred to another school. She used to say “eh” all the time!!
p.p.s. I need to make the coconut rice – ASAP

  21. May 23, 2011 9:04 pm

I liked this Monday, since I’m also a Canadian and had the day off! For the most part though, I agree and find the weekend to be enough down time. It’s funny, I guess I’m so used to the ‘eh’ I didn’t even notice it in the post until I read some of the comments 🙂

I love your photography, it’s always so beautiful!

  22. May 23, 2011 9:29 pm

We had the exact same dinner (except my rice didn’t include coconut milk).
    This never happens. I’m impressed.

Also, your outfit is adorable. I’ve been really into fashion and trends lately. I love how people dress so differently sometimes!

You are SO stylish! You are my style icon :))
That is the prettiest baked oatmeal ever, really! And I like you say “eh”, I say many stranger “sentence endings” 🙂

  24. May 24, 2011 12:50 am

I love every day! Another day to live and enjoy the things god gave us. Your last 2 posts were amazing, so of course it’s okay just this one time to have a shorter post. Just kidding, you could do this every day and I’d still read what you have to say. Ive never had baked oatmeal, but I need to give it a shot.

  25. May 24, 2011 4:00 am

Love the outfit – what a great way to spend a rainy day – a good book and lots of warm tea!
I don’t have Twitter yet and have been contemplating it too! Sounds like a good way to keep in touch – let me know what you do!!
    🙂 aim

  26. May 24, 2011 5:09 am

Love your style girly! You wear my sort of colors too yay 🙂
Your oatmeal looks absolutely delicious! I’m so jealous..I’m so lazy in the morning I just have boring cereal and stuff on top!
I don’t mind Mondays sometimes. I guess it’s the start of a fresh week with things going on to get on with. If we had weekends all the time I’m sure we’d soon get bored and feel like we needed to be doing something worthwhile.
As for Twitter. Gah, I was part of the ‘no Twitter’ crowd until recently. I swore to myself that I’d never get it because I knew it would become and new addiction and *sigh* I got one..and yes it’s a new addiction..It would be nice to have random little tweets with you though 🙂

Yes I love Mondays during the summer. but not during the semester.
and yes you should get a twitter and then follow me!!!

  29. May 24, 2011 7:15 am

I HATE twitter lol I just cant get into it–idk whats wrong with me?! lol
Monday=bleehhh just another day of the week. I dont really have a weekend because I work all week and go to school, so everyday seems the same to me..

  30. May 24, 2011 8:47 am

Nah, not a Monday fan. I prefer Tuesdays and Thursdays these days. 😉 And sometimes Sundays, but that doesn’t count since it’s the weekend, right??

I was morally opposed to the idea of Twitter — I think it is the most egotistical thing ever — and then I had to join as a class requirement. (Don’t ask.) It’s oddly addictive, though I don’t know why I can’t just talk aloud to myself. It would essentially achieve the same effect.

    ❤ ❤

  31. May 24, 2011 8:52 am

YESS GET TWITTER!! I need to stalk you more than I already do obviously 😉

And I LOVE Mondays!! Mainly cos I have BodyPump haha, but I just love every day pretty much! 😀

  32. May 24, 2011 10:44 am

I like mondays 🙂 and I like em rainy too, yes I know I’m an oddball if you ever met one.
I dont’t have twitter, I’m addicted enough to fb.

  33. May 24, 2011 1:40 pm

What a pretty color pink! I’m not a Monday fan, but I try not to be a hater.

  34. May 24, 2011 3:02 pm

I love Mondays too. Saturday is fun, but by the time Sunday rolls around I’m more then ready for some work 😛

And the meals look amazing (as always).

  35. May 24, 2011 3:14 pm

Mmmm that baked oatmeal looks so good ♥
I must give that a try for sure!

I totally love your top and nail polish btw…so cute! 😀
And it’s weird, but I actually LOVE Mondays during vacation only. They’re my favorite day of the week during Summer!

  36. May 24, 2011 4:57 pm

I love your zebra shirt. But I don’t love Mondays so much… For some reason I prefer Thursdays 🙂 .

I voted against Twitter. I already have too many time-consuming addictions to add one more. Well, I suppose some people really enjoy it so it is up to you.

  37. May 24, 2011 5:46 pm

Baked oatmeal? I must try this ASAP!
